SAFETY - FIRST AND ALWAYS
With this frightening incident on my mind, I want to remind everyone about the importance of providing our students with a safe environment at the start of our day and at dismissal. Part of this commitment to student safety includes the following:
- Slow down. Give yourself an extra ten minutes in the morning.
- Please do not double park, block our neighbors' driveways, nor park in the loading zone.
- Cross Blossom Valley at the designated intersections. Stopping traffic and encouraging children to run across the street increases the likelihood of your child getting hit by a car as people are rushing to get to work.
- When dropping your child off in the parking lot, please pull all the way forward. This allows more cars to enter the parking lot, rather than backing up on the street.
Thank you for your support and help in keeping all of our students safe.
COVID TESTING WITH GRAPEFRUIT
Weekly Screening at Alta Vista
As an additional layer of protection, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends screening testing in schools to stop the spread of the virus and prevent outbreaks. USD has partnered with professional testing experts at Grapefruit Testing to conduct no-cost COVID-19 screening test of students and staff at our schools.
All students will require parent/guardian permission to participate. Consent forms are linked below. Printed copies can be obtained from the school office.
Testing will occur during the school day and will take place in the cafeteria. The classroom teacher will be present to help children feel more comfortable with the process. Alta Vista will be testing on Mondays, beginning on September 27th.
We encourage families to complete the consent form and submit it directly to Grapefruit Testing so that your child may participate in this important on-site, health screening opportunity.

ALTA VISTA IN ACTION
I encouraged everyone to show their Cougar Pride on Wednesdays by wearing their Alta Vista tee shirts or school colors. We can't wait to see all of our Cougar Pride on display during next week's assembly.
