Instructional Strategies
Marking the text
Marking the text is an active reading strategy that asks students to identify information in the text that is relevant to the reading purpose. This strategy has three distinct marks: numbering paragraphs, underlining, and circling.
Chalk Talk
Chalk Talk is a silent way to reflect, generate ideas, check on learning, develop projects, or solve problems. Because it is done completely in silence, it gives groups a change of pace and encourages thoughtful contemplation.
One Pagers
One pagers are a single-page response to learning. A one-pager connects the verbal and the visual; it connects the ideas in what the student learns to their thoughts. It connects words and images. The one pagers become a metaphor for student learning.
