A circulation of winds around a central region of high atmospheric pressure, clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere,counterclockwise the Southern Hemisphere. (Dictonary.com)
Function
The anticyclone pushes air outward, instead of pushing it inward, like a regular cyclone.
British anticyclone 2003
In the Summer of 2003, an anticyclone hit Britain and caused a heat wave, rising prices of bottled water and AC. But, in the winter, a cold wave came from another anticyclone and caused a cold wave.
