Dec. 21-Jan. 1... Winter Break (schools closed)

Return-to-School Plan – Second Semester
Our return-to-school plan for second semester includes a two-week transition that begins remotely for staff/students and ends with in-school learning.
- Week of January 4-8:
- Second semester begins for students on Wednesday, January 6.
- Tuesday, Jan. 5, was added to Monday, Jan 4, as a teacher workday/student holiday because many schools are election polling sites.
- All PreK-12 students will participate in remote learning January 6 - 8.
- Week of January 11-15:
- Middle and high school students will participate in remote learning on Jan. 11 and Jan. 12, while elementary students return to school for Face-to-Face instruction, if they chose the in-person learning model for second semester.
- On Jan. 13, PreK-12 students (except those who chose remote learning) will come back for Face-to-Face instruction.
We didn't get to check out as many print books for the break to WBMS students as we'd have liked due to our closure Monday. HOWEVER, students have MANY online reading, listening, viewing, & making options through WBMS, FCS, and Fulton County Public Library offerings. Parents, please remember that in order to provide our 8th graders and mature content readers with their reading preferences, some content online may not match your child’s comfort level. (Please encourage them to just return such books and consider reading it later.)
Fulton County Public Library branches are offering curbside checkouts during limited hours. If you don’t have a public library card already, you (and all family members) may apply online for instant access to many of their digital options. For materials pickup and the full range of digital options, call your nearest library branch to complete full account access.
Further information on the online resources available, including curated topical lists and video directions on navigating the platforms, is available in our Webb (Extended) Winter Break 2020-21 Reading Opportunities Sway. We hope you find time over this extended break to read, listen, watch, and make new things!

WBMS Jr. Beta Wins BIG!
Typically, National Beta State Conventions and Leadership Summits bring together students from across the state to compete in a variety of competitions ranging from academic and STEM-based to visual and performing arts. This year, the in-person competitions and summits were switched to virtual competitions due to health and safety concerns stemming from the COVID-19. Our members worked hard, taking online tests , scheduling meeting with their peers, and preparing competition submissions for their virtual competitions.
We are proud to announce that their victories at the state level provide them the opportunity to compete at the national level. National Convention will be held at the Swan and Dolphin Resort at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida during Summer 2021.
With more than 500,000 active members and 8,750 clubs nationally and internationally, National Beta has become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. National Beta promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students. National Junior Beta includes grades 4-8 and National Senior Beta includes grades 9-12. Visit betaclub.org for more information.

Leadership Summit Winners
Winners and National Qualifiers- Lead Outside the Box
"Hello everyone, I am Sarah! We participated in lead outside the box where we had to create a virtual survival guide for middle schoolers. We decided to design a mock app with many different features. We accomplished this by giving everyone tasks. I designed the app, Chloe designed the in-app game, Maya wrote a parent info section, Nidhi did a staff interview, Shreyosee gave me the information to put in the app, Sripad, me, and a few others presented, we all contributed to making a PowerPoint, and lastly, I edited our video! This was a really fun competition to be in and we hope can all go to nationals in Orlando, Florida!
FCA
FCA will begin in October with the last Friday of the month, October 30th. We will do in person and virtual for those who are at home. Our leaders will be reaching out to the community to look for new members and new leaders to help them out. They have always done an excellent job! We will continue to add guest speakers as we are allowed to through county policy. This group is open to any one seeking fellowship and friendship!

Fulton County Public Library Cards – Free for our students! The benefits of having a student FCPL card include access to OverDrive eBooks and audiobooks which may be linked to their school Sora account and eReadKids as well as registration options for Hoopla and two free online tutoring programs (with the full FCPL account). Our ELA teachers are sharing in a NearPod session the benefits of owning a Fulton County Public Library Card and how to get (or renew) cards. Hopefully, your students have an account and maybe even a card. If not, this is a great opportunity for our students to receive theirs by way of our Media Center; just use the form in this Sway to apply for an online account and submit for a full card account (Alpharetta library is partnering with us to provide full cards). If your child is under age 13, should you choose to have your child not receive a full library account with access to all levels of materials, an online opt-out form is provided here; please submit any opt-outs by October 20th as we will forward the request for full accounts to the public library soon. If you have questions about this program, please contact Nan Brown, our media specialist, at brownnt@fultonschools.org.
WBMS Media Center – at curbside!
Students may now check out books from the WBMS Media Center – at curbside! Locate and hold titles in Destiny Discover, then watch for an email from the Media Center that your books are ready. Pickup times are between 7:45 a.m. and 4 p.m. on school days outside the media center (traffic circle just past front office entrance). Dial 470-254-8755 and we will bring books to you outside. Books may be returned any time to the secure book drop just outside the media center. Please contact Ms. Brown at brownnt@fultonschools.org with any questions.
