CSD Weekly Update
WEEK 34, May 14, 2021, Cambrian School District
Dear Cambrian Families,
It was another great week in the Cambrian community. The wonderful news this week is that in Santa Clara County, children 12 years and older can now get the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination. There are many options locally to get an appointment. Listed below is valuable information on how to sign up your child, age 12 and older, to be vaccinated.
It is hard to believe there are only a few weeks left of the 2020-21 school year. It’s important to note that the last day of school will be in-person for students on Wednesday, June 9 instead of an asynchronous day. As such, students will be in-person for the last week of school Monday, June 7th-9th. The last two days of school on June 8th and 9th students will be on a half-day, early release schedule. School site principals will share more as to those specific days so look for their emails.
While the end of 2020-21 school year is upon us there are many opportunities available for this summer in Cambrian School District. Throughout this family newsletter we will be posting opportunities for students and families throughout summer that you may want to take advantage of locally. Brand new this summer is our Camp Cambrian that will be a weekly camp hosted at Steindorf. Click here to register for Camp Cambrian. It is going to be a great summer STEAM camp for students who register!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy this warm weather. Thank you for your amazing support through so many changes during this past school year. We are CAMBRIAN!
Children ages 12-15 now eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations
Children ages 12 to 15 are now eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations. We recommend you get your child vaccinated as soon as possible.
Youth ages 12 and older need two doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine, given 3 weeks apart. Studies with thousands of children whose families volunteered to test the vaccine found that it provides strong protection against COVID-19. Several federal government agencies and panels of independent public health experts that advise the federal and state government reviewed the studies and recommended vaccine use in 12- to 15-year-olds. Also, 16- and 17-year-olds became eligible for vaccination a few weeks ago. If you have not yet had a chance to get your older teen vaccinated, please don’t delay.
There are many places for youth to go to receive a COVID-19 vaccine: 1. Check with your child’s regular doctor to determine if they have COVID-19 supply. Your doctor will keep your child up-to-date on all vaccines, including COVID-19. If you have questions, a good place to start is by discussing those with your doctor.
2. County Health System vaccine sites are available. Many schools have already hosted vaccine clinics on campus for the surrounding community, as well as eligible students and families. The County will continue to offer community vaccine clinics to ensure all eligible students, 12 and older, have the opportunity to obtain the vaccine. For more information about locations or to make an appointment, please go to www.sccfreevax.org. See the attached flyer for more information about County procedures for COVID-19 vaccinations for minors. 3. Pharmacies
It is important that youth get vaccinated. It is one of the best ways to slow the spread of COVID-19. Thank you to the Cambrian community for working together.
Face Covering Update
Yesterday the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced recommendations to relax face covering guidelines for individuals fully vaccinated against COVID-19, suggesting they may be removed in most but not all indoor and outdoor settings. While this news is certainly encouraging, it’s important to remember that we are still required to comply with state and local health orders, which have not yet relaxed their requirements on face covering guidance for schools.
Until that time, all of our educational facilities will continue to adhere to state and local requirements, which continue to require the use of face coverings by all individuals while on school property. We will continue to monitor the state’s guidance as they are likely to make changes in response to the CDC’s recommendations, and will keep you posted on any changes that impact school operations. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work together.
