Field Day is on Friday, April 22.
Students will practice strategies to support growing ideas about characters and themes in books. We will use sticky notes to help us keep track of our thoughts and will then communicate our ideas in writing.
In writing, students will begin a unit on literary essay. We will start this unit off with a debate! We will read The Giving Tree and will debate whether the tree in the story was strong or weak. Students will pick a side, then use text evidence to support their opinion.
Students will also argue in social studies. We will consider the implications of becoming a state or remaining an independent nation.
This week, students will be working with perimeter and area. Practice at home by using measuring tools find the perimeter and area of shapes in your home. You could measure your patio, the door on your microwave, and windows. Give it a try!
