News From Mrs. Bethune:
Hello all,
The students did a great job this week. The 3rd to 8th grade students worked hard and completed their standardized tests. The little ones did a great job being extra quiet in the hallway so as to not distract those who were testing. Thank you for helping us make this week so successful!
Just a reminder beginning March 15th (Thursday) students may wear shorts and girls may wear skirts without leggings underneath. Please help us by checking your child(ren)’s spring clothing as we know they have grown over the winter. The shorts and skirts need to be longer and not tight. As it states in the handbook the length should be past the fingertips when hands are placed down by the side. We are looking forward to the warmer weather and being able to enjoy our time outside! We are having a HSA general membership meeting on Tuesday night at 7pm. This is a special time as we will be able to see what the final playground project will look like and when it will be installed. Just a reminder if you have not signed up to help yet, you are required to do so.
Please remember to join us on March 19th for the Bishop Mass and donuts afterwards. Due to this special Mass, we will be having 3rd quarter honor roll at the school Mass on Tuesday, March 20th. Also there will be no school on Monday, March 12th and Friday, March 16th. Have a great long weekend.
God Bless,
Mrs. Bethune

St. Patrick Carnival Help
Carnival punch cards are still available for purchase next week all day Tuesday and Wednesday until 2pm in the school office. The 20 count punch cards are $5 each if bought at school and games are usually 2 punches each.
They will be $6 the day of the carnival. Please see flyer for carnival details. Thanks for supporting our annual fundraiser!
If anyone is available on Friday, March 16th to help set up the carnival games, we would really appreciate the help. Younger kids are welcome to help with a parent and junior high kids could be dropped off to help so long as they behave and actually help. No time for shenanigans this day. The more people we have, the less time it takes. We will start around 9am. Please help if you can! Thanks!
We have 30 shifts left to fill in order to keep all of the games running during the whole carnival. We don’t want to disappoint the kids, so PLEASE consider working shift. They will be shut down if no one can work them. Your child may help as long as you are with them. This is a great way to fill service hours for various organizations. I am willing to sign forms. Please also talk to your friends and family and ask them to help. My contact info is on the form.

LB295
We are at a critical and urgent moment on LB295, a legislative effort that would provide more education scholarship opportunities to low-income and working-class families. It is expected to be debated by the state legislature next week, the week of March 5th. As anticipated, the Nebraska State Education Association (i.e., the public teachers union) and others have been on a “campaign of misinformation” about LB295 and its impact on public schools and the state (see, for example, their www.notinnebraska.com website).
It is imperative that we get a message out to all of our schools. We want to urge a couple particular action items.
First, we urge all school administrators and teachers to get engaged on this issue by either e-mailing or calling their state senator. Our state senators want and need to hear from their constituents. They can e-mail their senator by clicking here. They can find out who their state senator is by clicking here. They can learn more about LB295 by visiting our website.
I hope our educators can step up and advocate on behalf of those impoverished families that do not have a voice. If our voice is not heard, state senators will not recognize the need or desire among their constituency for LB295.
Second, we urge all our school administrators to push advocacy information to their parents. In particular, we ask them to provide the LB295 advocacy piece (attached) to the parents. This one-pager encapsulates the necessary information anybody would need to contact their state senator.
We have provided a few other one-page materials (attached).
One last thing, while we want educators and parents across the state voicing their support, we will also be contacting specific schools based on their legislative district and whether or not their senator is a potential swing vote.
Thanks for your attention to this matter!
In Christ,
Tom Venzor
