Epic
a long poem, typically one derived from ancient oral tradition, narrating the deeds and adventures of heroic or legendary figures or the history of a nation.
Thanking God is an excellent example of an Epic, thanking an epic hero our God.
Archetype
a recurrent symbol or motif (distinctive feature) in literature
The fairy godmother isa a symbol of an archetype because she guides and directs Cinderella.
Allusion
an expression designed to call something to mind without mentioning it explicitly; an indirect or passing reference
My backpack felt like a ton of bricks.
Homeric Simile/ Extended Metaphor
figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another in the style of Homer or the epic poems
The game is fitting because you have to wait until dawn to play.
Epithet
descriptive phrase expressing a quality characteristic of the person or thing mentioned
This photo is very descriptive because it specifies the type of baby.
