The Articles of Confederation
Dani Swinderman
Advantages
- Unified army for the U.S.
- Can handle foreign relations
- Set up a legislature
Disadvantages
- Government couldn't enforce laws or tax citizens
- Needed 9/13 state approvals to pass a law
- Needed all 13 states to amend laws
- No executive or judicial branch, causing great unbalance
- States started to tax each other, therefore hurting the economy
Why Such A Weak Government?
- Tyranny was a very big fear for colonists, as they had already dealt with it once
- Having a weak central government meant officials wouldn't have enough power to even attempt taking over the country
