This week in Kindergarten
In Literacy this week we continued working on our letters and sounds and getting our words to come out in our writing and making our writing interesting to read with the use of adjectives. We all wrote a book called "The Pumpkin" where we talked and wrote about them and made sure to use adjectives to described their color, shapes, size and then on the last page they turned it into a jack-o-lantern and described how their pumpkin was feeling. In phonics we were very excited to get our second vowel. We worked with the short sound of /i/ as in the words if, hit. and bin. While we worked with writing it and learning the sound, we also began to listen to words and start to differentiate the difference between a short /a/ sound and a short /i/ sound. Everyone did so great with this activity!
In math this week we worked with number lines and on the concept of one more. We played games where we guessed the number that was hidden by recognizing what number was one more than it showing numbers that are one more with our fingers. We also started "happy counting" which was fun and will become more entertaining next week when we add in the concept of less.
This month, we are working on identifying ourselves by our last names and finding it in print. Some of us are enjoying writing our last names on our papers too. For now, most of us are just working on finding it on our door when we enter and we will begin writing our last names in the new year.
Last but not least I wanted to remind you that this coming week is an odd when in terms of school. We have an early release on Tuesday and no school on Friday in observance of Veterans Day.
