PAX Leaders at Park Layne Elementary
We work with kids to identify what PAX looks like in all areas of the building and remind students often. Each classroom has created a PAX Vision that is posted in their classroom stating what kids want to see more of, do more of, hear more of and feel more of in their rooms as well as what they want to see, hear do and feel less of. We are working to teach kids to self-regulate their behaviors and in so doing, we are creating positive classrooms where kids feel supported and loved and are able to spend more time learning! What a great thing!
We will be hosting a PAX Tools Training for parents soon, so be on the lookout for information on when that will take place. There is no reason for kids to stop being PAX leaders when they leave the building. We talk about being PAX leaders everywhere and all the time, even when no one is looking!
Every PAX Vision looks a little different.
A PAX vision is a work in progress and is often added to.
Teacher revisit the vision often with their students.
Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Program
The Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Program is a part of each classroom at Park Layne Elementary. This powerful program only takes 10 minutes a day, but teaches kids so much! Elements of the program include rhyming, identifying onsets, blending, identifying final and medial phonemes, segmenting, and substituting, adding and deleting phonemes among other skills. We began using the program last year and were able to go from 51% of first graders on track with PA to 97% over the course of the year. Some of our students and teachers will be demonstrating this program at the October Tecumseh Board of Education Meeting that will take place here at Park Layne Elementary on October 22 at 6:00 pm. Please feel free to join us to learn more. Our presentation will take place towards the beginning of the meeting and will only last about 15 minutes.
Boxtops for Education Program
Replacing the print Boxtops is a new app that you can download from the App Store or download on Google play. Then sign up for Park Layne Elementary. It's very easy to use. Once you have the app, scan your receipt within 14 days and your Boxtop purchases will automatically be credited to our school!
The money raised through Boxtops is used to support things like assemblies, PBIS Rewards, Welcome to Kindergarten Night and more. Please continue to help by saving those printed Boxtops and sending them in the first Friday of each month, and downloading the app and scanning your grocery receipts. Ask friends, relatives and neighbors to help as well.
