Our Star- The Sun
By: Emily Hendrix
The sun is unique in how it looks. Sunspots are dark spots on the surface of the sun. They are easily spotted because of their dark color. Prominence's are large, bright gaseous features extending outward from the sun's surface. They are connected to the photosphere and extend out into the corona.
A flare is a sudden eruption released on or near the surface of the sun. They are usually associated with sunspots and accompanied by bursts of electromagnetic radiation and particles. An aurora is a luminous atmospheric phenomenon appearing as streamers or bands of light sometimes visible in the night sky in northern and southern regions of the earth. These are thought to be caused by charged particles from the sun entering the earth's magnetic field and stimulating molecules in the atmosphere.
