Spelling Bee
Our 2021-2022 Spelling Bee Champion is Stephanie Torres in 5th grade and the runner up is Keiara Caldwell in 3rd grade. Stephanie will represent De Zavala in the area district spelling bee next semester!
If you've ever wondered why it's called a Spelling Bee, Merriam-Webster has a fun article that gives you the reason!

Arrivals, Dismissals, and Absences
If you'd like your student to eat breakfast at school, the cafeteria opens at 7:20 am and closes at 7:48 am. Doors to enter the classrooms open at 7:40 am and instruction begins promptly at 7:50 am, please have your students arrive no later then 7:50 am. After 7:50 am students are considered tardy.
Please schedule doctor's appointments in the afternoon if at all possible so that the instructional day of your student is maximized.
A courteous reminder that there will be no early dismissals after 1:45 pm for Pre-K and after 2:30 pm for K-5th grade. Thank you for your assistance in this matter!
Your student's attendance is so important, especially in regard to being present, on time and ready to learn. Texas has passed a compulsory attendance law that requires that students attend school everyday that instruction is provided. this law applies to children ages 6 - 19 and to students voluntarily enrolled in PreK or Kindergarten. Your student also needs to be here 90% of the time in order to be promoted or to receive a final grade. De Zavala's goal is to have all students here 97% of the time. Please help us meet that goal!
If there are more then 3 unexcused absences we are required to notify you with a warning letter. We make every effort to make daily contact with any student who is absent to make sure they are doing well or to see if they need more support from the school.
If you have any questions in regard to attendance, you are welcome to look at the student handbook, https://fwisd.org/conduct or call our office, 817-814-5600. We are here to help make sure your child is at school everyday and on time!
