Our Neighborhood Ghost Exterminator

Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! This 1984 film went viral all over the nation and has lasted for over 30 years. The cast and crew all had their moments, along with the box office of all movies.

Directed by Ivan Reitman, this movie is about three professors (Bill Murray, Dan Aykriod, and Harold Ramus) are kicked out of their university for studying the paranormal. They go and take shelter in an old firehouse and call themselves the Ghostbusters. On they go, busting ghosts, helping Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver), and meet the ultimate evil that may destroy the world forever.

It took about $32 million to create this movie (IMDb) On its opening weekend, June 8 of 1984, over $13.6 million was made. It hit one of the top spots in the movie biz, gaining more popularity that Gremlins (which was released on the same day), and a rating of 7.8 out of ten (IMDb). Reitman was amazed by how amazing this movie came out, considering how incredibly ridiculous it was.

One of the icons in Ghostbusters is the ghost that was first busted, who was given the nickname 'Slimer'. Originally, this ghost never had a name, but when Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) got slimed, the name stuck forever. Another icon is the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. If the Ghostbusters had to choose their own doom, it would be him. "The choice is made!" Gozer, the main evil, shouts. After some confusion (and a few angered words at Stanz) revealed the gigantic Marshmallow Man. Joe Medjuck, associate producer, said, "Ivan (Reitman) was really worried about Marshmallow Man. He was worried people would just think we'd go too far. This was the climax of the movie, and he thought, 'What if people think this is too silly?'" Thankfully, Marshmallow Man gave them tons of fame.

The infamous band of Ghostbusters had their moments through the years, and many more years to come. Hopefully, nothing ruins the original comedic ghost movie.
