Qualls' Quarterly PRES 2017
Pelham Road Elementary Volume 1 Issue 1
GREETINGS PRES Parents & Families!
I would like to wish all of our Pelham Road parents, students, and friends a safe, happy Winter Break and holiday season!
Walt Disney once said, "You can dream, create, design, and build the most wonderful ideas in the world, but it requires people to make the dream a reality". This is certainly the case for Pelham Road! The reality is that the amazing learning experiences and opportunities that have taken place so far this year could not have happened without a great deal of commitment and support from the teachers, staff, parents, and students. We are so fortunate at Pelham Road to continue to have the amazing support of you all.
I am so thankful for the opportunity to serve this wonderful school community as your principal! We anticipate a strong return to school when we come back in 2018! In the meantime, I wish you all a safe, happy, and enjoyable holiday season and happy New Year!
Below you will find a just a couple of snapshots of amazing things and events from 2017!
With great care and love,
Mrs. Qualls

What is a Compliment Card?
There are so many wonderful things that go on in our school and classrooms each day! Things that I or even you may not know about. This is just one way to help bring positive recognition to your child and let you know how proud we are of our students. One of my favorite compliment cards that I read so far was when a 3rd grader gave his coat to a teacher during the fire drill so that she would not get wet.
I am so proud of our students that help make our school such a special place. I am in the process of planning a surprise celebration for all the students that received a compliment so far this year. Stay tuned!
School Attendance
Please continue to make sure you have your student at school and on time. I also ask that you continue to be mindful of early dismissals. When a student is late or leaves early, he or she misses valuable class time and causes the teacher to do extra record keeping and explanations. In order for your child to be counted present, the new district's policy requires him/her to be in school at least 3 hours each school day.
We believe through regular attendance your child will best benefit from the instructional program at Pelham Road. Thank you for your support with these efforts.
"The Buddy Bench"
There are 2 ways that you can encourage your child to use it:
When you see someone sitting on the Buddy Bench
- Start by saying hello. If you don’t know the person, introduce yourself.
- Make conversation. What’s up? How are you? I like your shoes.
- Ask them to play with you or suggest an activity you can do together.
- Don’t make it the last time you hang out. Keep playing with your new friend.
When you sit on the Buddy Bench
- “Before you sit on the Buddy Bench, think of something you would like to do. Ask someone else to play with you.”
- “The bench isn’t for socializing. Only sit there if you can’t find anyone to play with.”
- “While you’re sitting on the bench, look around for a game you can join.”
- “If you see something you want to do or a friend you want to talk to, get off the bench!”
- “If you’re sitting on the bench, play with the first classmate who invites you.”
- “Keep playing with your new friends!”
