VOLUNTARY 3-Week Summer Athletic Phase-In Guidelines
Student-Athletes, Parents/Caregivers:
I hope this message finds you and your family doing well. Recently, the West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletic Commission (WVSSAC) has allowed for a voluntary3-phase summer program to prepare student-athletes for the upcoming athletic season.
This 3-phase approach will allow student-athletes the opportunity to properly condition and re-acclimate themselves to their sport-specific activities. In accordance with this decision by the WVSSAC, Berkeley County Schools announces these activities can begin on Monday, June 15. During the week of June 8th, student-athletes, parents, caregivers, and coaches can begin to properly prepare and schedule for a safe return for all participants involved.
Throughout the next few days, athletic directors and coaches will begin creating a schedule for activities and specific directions for student-athletes, which will be communicated directly to previous players from last year and via school social media. Students who did not participate in a sport last year, but are interested in participating in these conditioning programs, should reach out to the head coach of that sport immediately.
As we move forward, we appreciate your patience and flexibility as we develop plans with our students’ safety considered. The following information should help student-athletes to prepare for the start of Phase 1 on June 15.
What you should do from June 8-14 to prepare to participate in Phase 1 workouts:
- Continue to properly adhere to social distancing of 6 feet or more, washing hands, coughing into your elbow, and staying home if you are sick.
- Condition and train on your own at home, as school facilities will be sanitized properly to prepare for the return of our students and coaches.
- Hydrate properly.
- Obtain a face mask or shield (reach out to your specific school if you are unable to obtain one).
- Obtain a water bottle or be prepared to provide your own method of hydration.
- Communicate with your coach and/or school if you have questions or concerns.
June 15 to June 26
- Outdoor conditioning activities only.
June 29 to July 10
- Mixture of outdoor and indoor conditioning and weight training activities.
July 13 to July 31
- Sport specific activities.
