Gimmel ג

We have just learned our second to last letter, GIMMEL. ג gimmel makes a "g" sound like grape. It also happens to look like a giraffe, complete with a long neck and front and back leg. Here are some words that we practiced that start with a ג gimmel.

Garden Gan גן

Carrot Geh-zer גֶּזֶר

Big Ga-dol גָּדוֹל

Back Gav גַּב

Ice Cream Glidah גְּלִידָה

Rain Geh-shem גֶּשֶׁם

Giraffe Gee-ra-fa גִ'ירָפָה

What is Gematria?

Gematria is a system where Hebrew letters are used in place of numbers. The best place to see this is in a Tanakh, where Hebrew letters are used for chapter and verse numbers. We decided to play around with how this works for fun. We even added up how much each of our Hebrew names would equal. It was loads of fun for them to figure out that חי (Chai:LIFE) is 18 and that לג (Lag:33) Lag B'Omer is the 33rd day of the Omer. WHOA!

Mezuzot

Your child's mezuzah should be on its way home today. Each child has a klaf in their mezuzah, however the scroll is not kosher. You may choose to replace it with one that is, or not.
