Teeland Middle School
December 2021
Letter from the Principal
12/1/2021
Dear Teeland Families:
Happy Holidays!! TMS staff are hoping you had a safe and happy Thanksgiving Holiday with your families. We have only three weeks until the end of the first semester and the beginning of winter break. These last three weeks are very important for students to stay caught up with their school-work and to make sure they get any missing work completed. Every Tuesday and Thursday we have an after school study hall from 2:30-3:30. Students are welcome to attend after filling out a permission slip from the office. We also have lunch time study hall that students can choose to attend, or we may be assigning depending on their grades. Please reach out to your child’s teachers if you have any questions or concerns.
There are great things happening at TMS! Our drumline will be performing at the Mat-Su Borough Assembly meeting on December 14th. TMS band and choir concerts are next week. We also have our Special Education program sponsoring the TMS Angel Tree again this year for families in need. Our US History classes have made some spectacular Constitution Books that will soon be on display at the school district office, and we have many students participating in several after-school activities. Teeland is an excellent place to work, and the students are amazing.
There is a December dance scheduled for 12/10/21 from 2:30-3:45. If your student would like to attend, please make sure they are picked up no later than 4:00 pm. The cost is $5.00.
Thank you for your support this semester. We count on families to team up with us in moving students towards success. The challenges continue to be overwhelming for some families and we realize that students have multiple stressors in their lives. Our goal is to do our best to collaborate with families to navigate any obstacles and make a plan focused on achievement.
Reach out anytime through email, or call 907-352-7507.

Angel Tree
Families,
Teeland will be hosting the Angel Tree again this year! The Angel Tree is a program that assists Teeland families in need during the Christmas season by providing new clothing, snacks, and toys as gifts for their children. If you would like to assist in purchasing gifts for the families, there will be an Angel Tree in the front office after Nov. 19th. Please grab an angel and return it by Friday, December 10th unwrapped. Thank you Teeland community for helping make these families' Christmases wonderful!

Free Little Library
TMS has a Free Little Library in two different locations. One Free Library is outside the C-Wing doors by the bus lot, and the other location is outside the main entrance. Students are welcome to take a book from either of those library bins at any time. The books are free! If students would like to leave a book in the bin to donate, that would be great!
Any families that have age-appropriate books that they are wanting to donate for the bins, please leave the books at the front desk. Reading is highly encouraged at TMS and we want students to have books available to take home any time!

School Safety
Parents/guardians, please ensure your student has dressed appropriately for the weather as the temperatures start its downward spiral towards winter. In the event of a fire drill or an emergency, your student may be outside for an extended period of time. Frostbite sets in quickly and the effects can be long-term. Years ago, I was subjected to frostbite and still suffer its debilitating effects.
As a reminder, if your student walks or rides a bike to school, please ensure they have sufficient reflective gear and lights. TMS has received numerous calls from concerned parents regarding students walking or riding a bike next to the street wearing dark clothing.
