Hopkins Middle School Newsletter
March 5th, 2021
Hello Students and Parents,
We are so excited to have all in-person students back in the building beginning next week Monday, March 8th! This also marks the beginning of our third trimester. For some students, positive routines are already established and they will continue to be successful. For others, this will be an opportunity to put new habits into practice and engage with teachers and content more frequently.
Final grades for the second trimester will be mailed home the week of March 15th. Teachers will be grading late and make-up work until March 10th. Please note that the grades you see in PowerSchool are subject to change up until March 10th. The paper copy of the report card will be the final grades entered into the student’s historical record. If you have specific questions about your student’s grade, please contact their teacher.
In the mailing, along with a student report card, you will receive an NWEA MAP test report. This report will show your student’s attainment score as well as a growth score in both Math and ELA. This score is averaged against all students nation-wide who have taken the same MAP test with similar weeks of instruction. The NWEA MAP test will be taken a third time before the end of the school year.
With the second trimester in the books, we should all take a brief moment to celebrate how far we’ve made it. This year has thrown a major curveball to students, staff, and parents. Overall, we’ve managed to avoid a building-wide closure. We’ve also been able to provide a consistent model of instruction so students had a chance to establish routines. Teaching staff have put countless hours into making their lessons accessible to anyone at any time! Parents have rearranged schedules, donated time and supplies, and contributed to fun events for students including but not limited to our Holiday Light competition and ice cream social. Thank you!
I’m looking forward to an even better third trimester.
Sincerely,
Scott Stockwell
HMS Principal
