living problems
people who were payed low wages lived in buildings with bad conditions. the problems of these working conditions were because of how they are treated at work and how much they got payed for there job. life would be worst if you were living with children, but no husband because men got payed more than women back then. women worked long hours but led to no success.
495,000 people in new York city were living in tenement buildings. In the buildings there was only one toilet for every twenty people. as a result of poor sanitation, contagious diseases such as tuberculosis and pneumonia often read quickly through crowded slums. from these diseases over hundreds of people have died of sickness from unsanitary buildings.
