WELCOME BACK, GREEN KNIGHTS!
August is upon us and in just a few short weeks, our 67th school year at Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School will commence. While summer isn't over just yet, I have to admit that I am looking forward to seeing our students' smiling faces in our hallways once again! I am proud to begin my fifth year as principal, and I am excited to continue the traditions of academic excellence and faith formation for which Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School is known. Our theme for this school year will be the same as the parish's 70th anniversary theme: Listen~Liturgy~Love. Let us begin this school year the same way we begin every day with our students, grounded in the mission of Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School:
The Eucharistic community of Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School focuses on
Christ-centered values and develops the unique potential of each student
through a rigorous and engaging curriculum.
There are various events coming up to welcome our SPB students and families back to school. I want to extend a special welcome to the new families who are joining us this year! Be sure to review the important dates below. Please note that Meet the Teacher on August 22 is for K-8 ONLY. Once again this year, we are asking that all back to school forms be completed online prior to the first day of school. There is no need to print out hard copies of the back to school forms. However, students who are entering Kindergarten or are new to SPB must print the medical and dental forms for your health care provider and dentist to complete and sign by the first day of school, August 24. Students in Kindergarten-Grade 8 who require medications during the school day must also print the medication forms and have their health care provider sign the form before bringing any medications to our school nurse. We now have the capability to batch print forms in the office which I know is wonderful news for parents, teachers, and for us! The link is go live on Wednesday, August 3 and can be accessed HERE. The online forms are for K-8 ONLY. Preschool families should have received hard copies in their welcome packets to complete and submit at the Preschool parent meetings.
There have been some wonderful changes Inside our school that we are excited for you to see! Two preschool classrooms received new carpeting and the girls restroom near third grade has been renovated. In the coming weeks, two classrooms will have new lockers installed and four classrooms will receive new shades. Please be sure to check out these upgrades when you visit for Meet the Teacher Night.
Technology in our building continues to be enhanced. Our fifth graders will each receive a Chromebook and carrying case which they will use all the way through eighth grade. A huge THANK YOU is extended to our PTO for funding the purchase of the Chromebooks and carrying cases for our students. Also, thanks to generous donors who helped to raise $30,000 during We Give Catholic last November, five more classrooms now have new ActivPanels. We are making great progress in moving from SMART Boards to ActivPanels. Now all of our homeroom classes in K-8, the Jansky Learning Center, and the music room are equipped with ActivPanels!
Last but certainly not least, I am so grateful to our amazing maintenance crew who worked tirelessly in the summer heat to make our school SHINE! Carpets have been cleaned, floors have been waxed, desks have been fixed, etc....the list goes on and on! Thank you to Mr. Jon Detzel, Mr. Scott Rutti, Mrs. Chris Muttillo, and Mr. Chris Rutti for all of their efforts.
In these final days of summer, let us take time to thank God for all the graces He has bestowed upon us and ask Him to keep Saint Paschal Baylon Catholic School students, parents, faculty, and staff in his loving care. Should you have any questions prior to the start of school, please call us at 440-442-6766 or email office@saintpaschal.com
Blessings,
Diane Raguz, Principal

IMPORTANT DATES FOR K-8
August 1-22 - PTO Uniform Exchange
Please visit the self-serve PTO Uniform Exchange in the Parish Life Center for great bargains on gently used uniforms. The doors will be open Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and during Masses on weekends.
Items with envelopes are for purchase from individual families. Please leave money in labeled envelopes at the main table. Please bring cash (preferred) for the various envelopes. Any checks should be made payable to the SPB PTO. All other items are by donation and at your discretion. Donations go to SPB PTO. This is a service provided by the PTO, not a money maker. This service allows families to “pay it forward“ and support our SPB community!

New Changes and Faces to Our Faculty and Staff
We have a couple of new additions to our faculty and staff. In June, we were informed that Senora Garcia, our Spanish teacher, would not be returning. We are very excited to welcome the following faculty and staff members to our school community:
- Senora Elizabeth Figueira will be our Spanish teacher this year. Mrs. Figueria is originally from Venezuela. She previously taught in the Cincinnati area and most recently served as the Spanish teacher at Saints Joseph and John in Strongsville for the past two years.
- We have offered the Technology Coordinator/Teacher position to someone, and she has accepted; however, she will not be announced until she is able to officially sign her contract.
- While they are not new to SPB, two familiar faces will be taking on different roles in our preschool! We are excited to have Mrs. Lori Woellert serve as an aide in Mrs. Dixon's Junior K classroom this year. Don't worry, she will continue in her role as a playground aide, too. Mrs. Katie Orlando will start the year serving as an aide in the PreK morning class while Mrs. Mack is out on maternity leave. We are excited that Mrs. Orlando has decided to serve as a sub in all grades once her time in preschool is complete.
- A new nurse (LPN) will join our staff once school begins. PSI, our third party contractor, will make this assignment.

2022-2023 Theme: Listen~Liturgy~Love
Just as we have in the past, our theme this year will follow the parish's theme. To the right is the logo for this theme. Here is a description that was included in Paschal Life a few weeks ago:
Each year, our Pastoral Staff develops a theme for us to live and focus on our Eucharistic parish mission. For July 2022- June 2023, we have chosen, under the inspiration of George Peko, “LISTEN - LITURGY - LOVE.” As we prepare for our 70th year as a parish family, we must listen to God and one another to discern the will of the Holy Spirit in our parish’s life. Where do we wish to go with God’s guidance? We celebrate that God has blessed us by LITURGY, and we purposely take an active role in having folks return to CELEBRATE and LIVE the Mass. Being the Body of Christ is like a sports team – we need each other as a “people of faith.” That calls us to LOVE. God’s love has touched us in the Eucharistic liturgy and then calls us to serve, to be the Eucharist to others in the world; in short: TO LOVE! The theme song we will use during this time is “Open Our Eyes.” Let us all together LISTEN, come to the LITURGY and then serve in LOVE in our world that needs to Open its Eyes to God’s love and many gifts.
