Math
This week in math, students were able to order, decompose, and compare three-digit numbers by using symbols such as <, >, or =. They order three-digit numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least. Next week, students are going to learn more about polygons (are closed and have all straight sides) and quadrilateral.
Science
This week in Science, we are learning about the different types of rocks, Sedimentary, Igneous and Metamorphic. We have also learned that we can identify the properties of a rock, such as the color, shape, size, texture and luster. We have learned that Sedimentary rocks were formed in rivers, lakes, oceans or streams. Igneous rocks were created by a volcano. Metamorphic rocks are igneous or sedimentary rocks that have been morphed or changed by pressure and heat. Learning about rocks is fun!
Readers Workshop
This week in Reader's Workshop, we practiced finding the main idea of a text. We read both fiction and nonfiction texts to practice identifying the topic of the text and the main idea. The main idea is what the text says about the topic of the text. Once the students found the main idea, they found details to support the main idea.
Writer's Workshop
In Writer's Workshop, the students took one of their Expository Frameworks and published it. The frameworks were created about a cultural celebration that we studied. The students created a flipbook to display their writing. Ask your student about what celebration they wrote about.
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we continued our study of cultural celebrations. The showcase what we learned about the celebrations, we created foldables that described one specific cultural celebration.
