Pella Public Library is pleased to provide you with this free monthly newsletter keeping you informed on the progress being made on the Pella Community Memory Database (PCMD), a new grant-funded project sponsored by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). PHSM People Photographs Collection Opens
In generous cooperation with the Pella Historical Society and Museums (PHSM), we are now entering Phase II of the grant project. This involves scanning boxes of photographs from the archives of PHSM. The new collection of people photographs is now open and available to view, with 338 photographs in the collection and many more on the way! Check out the new collection here!
Goodbye, Sandy!
Sandy Verhoef, our Library Digitization Assistant, finished her work with us In early July. We want to say a special "thank you!" to her for all of her hard work throughout the previous year to add content to the Pella Community Memory Database. She will be missed!
Applications Open for Library Digitization Assistant
We're looking for a hard working, dedicated individual to become our new Library Digitization Assistant! The successful candidate will work 20 hours per week (scheduled days and times negotiable) scanning content and adding metadata (descriptions) to the Pella Commmunity Memory Database using a variety of hardware and software tools. The ability to work independently and a commitment to quality is a must! If this sounds like you, apply online through the City of Pella. Featured Document of the Month: Car Crash at Boat's Furniture Store
This is a photograph of a man cleaning in front of a store. The back of the photograph indicates that this was in the November 30, 1954 edition of the Pella Chronicle. It captures the aftermath of a car going through the window of Boat's Furniture. This document is now a part of the Pella Community Memory Database. View it here.
