Strokes And How To Avoid Them
By Anya Rodgers
How/Why Somebody Gets A Stroke And What happens
A stroke occurs when a blood vessel going to or through the brain clots or bursts and cannot bring oxygen to the brain. Due to this, those brain cells lacking oxygen die. It can result in paralysis, unbalance, weakness, coordination, and muscle difficulty (where on your body depending on what side of the brain was damaged). It can also cause problems with reading/writing, speaking, seeing/perceiving, remembering, thinking, learning, swallowing, controlling your bowels and or bladder, and much much more. My grandfather had a Stroke or two. He suddenly couldn't use half of his body, and he was slowly losing his normal abilities.
Strokes can be hereditary. Your chance of having a stroke can be multiplied if your parents or grandparents have had a stroke, genetic mutations or genetic disorders. African Americans have a higher chance of having a stroke than Caucasians do.
Not all causes of Strokes are hereditary, though. The likelihood of getting a stroke doubles in chance after every decade of your life. Women also have a history of getting more strokes than men, but not because of genetics. Birth controls pills, post-menopausal hormone therapy, and even just pregnancy can be dangerous or raise a woman's chance of getting a stroke. A person who has had a stroke before has a higher chance of getting another one than one who has never had a stroke before.
Treating A Stroke
The prevention method differs with what kind of Stroke the victim has got. But sometimes, the prevention method doesn't even help if the patient has been brought in too late for the treatment to work. This is why it is so important that a Stroke victim be brought in ASAP.
Prevent Strokes
- Don't Smoke/Quit Smoking– Smokers have 2 times the chance the risk of getting a Stroke compared to non-smoker
- Keep Diabetes In Check– People with diabetes have 2.5 times the chance of having a Stroke than someone who doesn't, and two out of three Diabetic people die of a heart disease
- Reduce Fats + Eat Healthy– You knew it was coming, just eat healthy higher cholesterol means a higher chance of artery ruptures
- Control High Blood Pressure– Unnecessary stress on the walls of your blood vessels thickens and deteriorates your blood vessels
