Williamsburg Elementary School
We are so proud of our Wildcat Battle of the Books Team!! Roaring Readers!
Williamsburg’s Wildcats loved celebrating the 100th day of school last month!
Williamsburg would like to recognize our amazing Pre-K team for all they do for their students! Ms. Talluto and Mrs. Kennedy prepare children academically and socially for success in kindergarten and later years! Thank You!
Read Across America Week was a huge success at Williamsburg! We loved seeing all our students and staff dressed up for the daily reading theme! In our classrooms students read and listened to stories that connected to our daily themes!
Wentworth Elementary School
Superintendent Stover begins another Parent Listening Meeting at Wentworth Elementary School!
Our Read-A-Thon at Wentworth was a huge success! Students enjoyed reading by flashlight, children’s book awards, and book swap!
We appreciate students from the Rockingham County High School FFA coming over to Wentworth Elementary to read to our students!
Stoneville Elementary School
Stoneville Elementary School Celebrated Read Across America Week!! Students from grades 3-5 chose books to read to students in grades K-2. Buddy Reader day is the best! Third graders read to first graders, while fourth grade students read to the functional skills and Kindergarten Splash classes!
Stoneville Elementary School celebrated Read Across America Week with Guest Reader Day! We had guest readers come in and read to all classes. Sheriff Sam Page, Mrs. Pruitt, and Mrs. Jackson were a few of our great readers!
Stoneville Elementary’s Cafeteria Manager Mrs. Robin participated in Read Across America Week as well, as she read to Mrs. Dana Tuckers EC Class, while also volunteering after work to read to some other classes! Thanks for everything you do!
South End Elementary School
On Thursday, March 2, Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page read "Fox on Socks" and "Green Eggs & Ham" to Ms. Shelton's second grade class at South End Elementary for Read Across America Week!

Lincoln Elementary School
Read Across America at Lincoln Elementary School! We enjoyed our guest readers last week! Several Central Office staff members were asked to visit schools! Dr. Corcoran visited Mrs. Land’s kindergarten classroom!
Lincoln Elementary School’s Nutrition Manager Marcy Laidlow read to students last week as part of Read Across America week! She is always making our cafeteria exciting!
Read Alouds are a great way to introduce and reinforce vocabulary! We at Lincoln are so thankful for all of the individuals that visited us to share their love for reading in Read Across America week!
Lincoln Elementary first graders are exploring 3-D shapes through hands-on learning!
Vocabulary comes to life in Mrs Martin’s room as she gets her students to huddle just like the sheep in the story did when they sensed a storm was coming!
Lincoln third grade students had fun at the ACC Tournament on Tuesday! They were able to seem teamwork come to life, the effects of supply and demand on prices, and how events can boost an economy!
Leaksville-Spray Elementary School
For Read Across America Week, we showed how crazy we are for books with our crazy hair and socks! We also did “The Power of Words,” wearing shirts that our friends could read! Other themes included “Dolphins are cool and kind!” We wore our coolest shades and school colors! There was also “Color outside the lines,” as students brought in their illustrations for a school art show and wore their favorite color! We had around 30 guest readers visit our building on Friday, March 3rd. Thank you to all of our guest readers!
In Media, students created tents to read under!

LES second graders celebrated their PBIS accomplishments with creating hot air balloons related to the story "Oh the Places You'll Go!"

Huntsville Elementary School
Local Real Estate agent Kim Martin was a part of Career Day with the third graders at Huntsville Elementary School, where she shared her experiences as a NC Realtor/Broker. These students came prepared with questions and ready to learn about being a Realtor! They were such a great group of kids and loved the bags she handed out! Here's to the next generation!

Twin day at Dillard Academy for Read Across America week!
Students loved dress like an animal or in animal print day that was part of Read Across America week!
Dillard Academy is thankful for our community readers! Volunteers read to various grade levels for Read Across America week!
Dillard Academy would like to thank the Rockingham County Arts Council for providing our Kindergarten students with the opportunity to learn about Native American culture and and dream catcher weaving!
Patrick Surrez visited Dillard Academy and shared his Native American culture with our students! Students were invited to participate in dances and were able to see and feel real Native American items!
Dillard Academy families celebrated our One Book, One School with a family night! Families were able to visit the book fair and enjoy activities revolved around "A Nest for Celeste!” There was nest building, cheese tasting and an escape room!

BTWLC students celebrating National Cereal Day with a great treat! Students completed a writing prompt during class about cereal!
Celebrating our bus drivers, monitors, SRO, and Guidance Staff! Thanks for all you do. We also appreciate our friends from other schools who helped us transport students to school!
Bethany Elementary School
This talented bunch of Bethany singers headed to rehearsals Friday morning for the 30th Annual Elementary All County Chorus show that will take place this evening at Morehead High School at 6:00 p.m.!
Mr. Flynt’s fifth graders are learning about gravitational forces during their forces of motion unit & recording information in their interactive Science notebooks. What a great way to organize their science vocabulary words & keep their resources in one place!
Ms. Herrera’s fourth graders practiced what they learned about fractions by programming Sphero for bowling! They had fun finding equivalent fractions and trying ways to knock over the pins with the robot. What a wonderful way to integrate math & technology!
Ms. Caudle’s second graders didn’t want to stop working on their escape room! They were reviewing literacy concepts and having fun! Student collaboration & high quality tasks = high student engagement!
Is it Black Friday? No, it is the Bethany Book Fair! Bulldogs were excited about shopping for their favorite books!
Kindergarten classes participated in fun reading activities during Read Across America Week! They read with flashlights, found rhyming words & much more. Thing 2 even made an appearance Friday!
Rockingham County Schools
The Rockingham County Schools Nutrition Department held a kickoff for National Nutrition Month at Morehead High School! School Nutrition Training Manager Heather Powell and Morehead High School Cafeteria Manager Audrey McCrickard discussed with Mrs. Shelton's Food Science Class the importance of a HACCP Book in Kitchens!
Congratulations to the seventeen junior and seniors who received an opportunity to attend a summer apprenticeship with RockATOP!
Catherine Massengale and Pam Artis were interviewed by Cindy Farmer at Fox 8 News about this Saturday's Community Reading Festival! Catch the Reading Bug Saturday at the Community Reading Festival at Rockingham County Middle School from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.!
The RCS Human Resource Department has scheduled an RCS Career Fair to fill currently vacant classified positions for Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at the AG Center in Wentworth from 4:00-7:00 PM. Each department will be responsible for ensuring staff are present to talk with potential candidates about the specifics of different employment opportunities. After the initial screening process, potential candidates will be referred to principals with vacancies in those areas. Contingency offers of employment may be provided on site with the approval of the Director of Human Resources, Mr. Richardson and/or the Coordinator of Human Resources, Ms. Foster.
Through a combination of three grants from Reidsville Area Foundation, the Rockingham County Education Foundation and Walmart, the School Health Advisory Board (SHAC) was able to provide two fitbits for each school to award to two lucky staff members for logging their health activities throughout the school year! RCS was pleased to welcome MyFutureNC to Rockingham County Friday morning for our Senior Leadership team meeting!
School Social Workers are great educators, advocates, supporters, etc. for students and families! We so appreciate their efforts in our schools and in our school communities!
