Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers

This year's theme for Read Across America is Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers. Our OES Reads Committee has been meeting over the last few weeks and has worked hard to find creative ways to continue to celebrate this special week during this unusual year.

Each day this week will be a themed day that will encourage our students to read lots of books. We hope that they will choose books that reflect their lives, their families, and their interests. We will also be encouraging them to read books that allow them a window into lives, families, and interests that are different from their own.

We encourage you to take time as a family this week to enjoy some books together. Read some cherished favorites that you have shared for years or check out some new stories that will transport you on new adventures with characters you have yet to meet. This is one of our favorite weeks at OES and we hope you have as much fun with it as we do!

Happy reading,

Miss Karnes

Mrs. Hoke's Pre-K Class

PreK has just started a unit about colors. Part of their unit focuses on laundry and the importance of sorting colors when doing laundry. Students in Mrs. Hoke's PreK class completed some research on what washers and dryers look like at a laundromat and then worked together to create their own washer and dryer to use in their laundromat dramatic play area.
