Kindergarten
Kindergarten had a fun Fire Safety Week filled with learning! They used their candy corn counters, learned about fire safety, worked in guided reading groups, observed and graphed the weather, did a sun experiment, worked through the first 4 days of Creation, celebrated a birthday and so much more. The class even got “Boo’d” this week, with a special basket of surprise treats just for us!
1st Grade
The first graders were busy this week. They made scarecrows for our fall bulletin board. We are learning about parts of plants in science. The first graders did an activity in which they compared trees to umbrellas. They were trying to solve the problem of beach umbrellas blowing away in the wind. They made models of umbrellas and tested them in the wind. After watching a mystery science video about how trees can blow in the wind, they redesigned their umbrellas. Then they tested them again. First graders also worked in their interactive notebook and labeled parts of the plant.

Cross Country Team Picture and Meet Update
Runners need to bring their cross country uniforms to school on Tuesday, Oct. 13 for yearbook pictures at 3:10pm. SFCS will compete against Hilton Head Prep at 5pm that day. As a result, we are limited in the number of runners that can be sent to that meet. Coach Rich will let your son know today if he will compete on Tuesday, so please ask him tonight so you can arrange appropriate pick up procedures for Tuesday.
Volunteer Coaches
WE NEED YOU! SFCS Basketball is undergoing program changes and currently looking for volunteer coaches for both of our Junior (6/7th graders) teams. Some coaching experience is preferred but not necessary. We would also consider qualified high school students that are looking for a fun way to build up a college application while getting community service hours. Practices are generally 2-3 times a week from 3:15-4:30 beginning in mid-November with games starting in January and the season runs until mid-February.
Spirit Day - Thursday, October 15th
Spirit Days, NUT Cards, Game Day Dress Codes
There are many opportunities throughout the year in which students will be able to come to school “out of uniform”. On these days students may wear pants (jeans, cargo pants, athletic pants) and/or shorts that are not excessively tight, short (shorts must be below fingertips when standing), and/or revealing. Jeans may not have torn holes in them. Yoga pants or excessively tight leggings are not permitted. Shirts and blouses should be modest in coverage as well as in content. The regular policies regarding jewelry, makeup, and hair still apply on days in which the regular uniform is not required.
Student athletes may wear their athletic jersey in place their regular school uniform top on days in which there is a game or match. A plain white t-shirt is acceptable to be worn under the jersey. Students must be in their regular uniform pants, shorts, skirts, skorts shoes, and socks during school on game days.
The final decision regarding the appropriateness of clothing items and the possibility of disciplinary action on non-uniform days is made by the Principal.Halloween Trunk o' Treat - Friday, October 30th
It will be a new path this year since we will not be visiting the residents at Bloom. We still have many spots available for parents to decorate a trunk. If you would like to participate by decorating a trunk this year then please email Mrs. Markey at mmarkey@sfcshhi.com. Parents that will be handing out candy at a trunk must wear a mask.
It will be a dress down day for the students prior to the parade. Students need to wear the portions of their costume that would require them to change privately in the bathroom to school that day. All other portions may be brought to school in a bag and may be put on in the classroom. Students will need to wear a face covering during the parade. As always, costumes must be appropriate and modest. Nothing too gory or revealing.
Parents will be able to watch the parade at a designated area this year from the church parking lot. Parents may not walk with the classes. Parties will also be closed to the students and teachers only.
We will send more information about the parade route and other information as it becomes available.
