Opportunity--Purdue's Gifted Education and Research Institute
Dear Parents, Faculty, Teachers, and Administrators,
Purdue’s Gifted Education Research & Resource Institute (GER²I) is excited to announce the return of our in-person summer camps! Summer Residential is for high ability students in Grades 5-12. The program will be held July 3-30, 2022, with one-, two-, or four-week sessions. Registration opened March 1st, so register soon to ensure your preferred class selection! Check out more information on this exciting summer camp below!
We offer a wide range of classes, including STEM and the humanities, to foster your child’s academic, creative, and artistic interests and skills. These classes are designed to be one to two grade levels above traditional classroom content and taught by esteemed professors, graduate students, and K-12 teachers with experience teaching youth with high ability.
This year, we’re offering so many special classes for all grade levels. Check our attached program brochure for all of the great course options! Topics include (but are not limited to) STEM domains like: STEAM, computer programming with Python, environmental science, neuroscience, math games, virtual reality world tours, and designing robots and smart toys; and humanities domains like: acting, filmmaking, audio and other art and media production, costume design, game theory and global politics, other creatively-centered classes, leadership, social media, spy skills, culinary science, and science fiction!
Another meaningful component of our camp is our affective curriculum where camp counselors lead small group discussions to support high-ability students’ social and emotional development. Campers will experience new friendships, cultures, games, and other interactive activities geared toward their interests and affective needs. A rich experience awaits your child(ren) as campers participate from several different countries, Native American reservations, and over half of the United States. For more details about registration, and a full listing of classes, check our brochure at https://www.education.purdue.edu/geri/youth-programs/summer-residential/ and in the attachment.
Registration is live at http://www.purdue.edu/conferences/GER2ISummerRes2022.
You may be eligible for one of many discounts, including discounts for Purdue faculty and staff, siblings attending camp, multiple sessions attended by the same camper, or a Refer-a-Friend discount. Financial aid is available for those who qualify, on a first-come, first-served basis. All discounts are applied to base tuition.
Join us for an exciting learning adventure at GER²I’s 2022 Summer Residential Program! And will you do us a favor? Please forward this email to as many of your colleagues and networks as you’re able, including your child’s school(s). Please contact us if you have any questions at geri@purdue.edu or (765)494-7243.
Dual Credit
Dual Credit enrollment has been underway since October 2021. Emails and newsletters have been sent out with deadlines and helpful documents in order to complete the application process. Please ensure that your child has completed the necessary steps in order to enroll in dual credit courses for next year. The TSIA2 exam needs to be taken for all course selections, unless your child's PSAT scores exempt them. This is their responsibility to make sure they have registered for the exam. Please review the attached documents to confirm all steps have been completed. Questions? Contact Ms. Orozco at 210-397-5440.
