Read Across America Week is coming
Here are some additional notes that have already been sent out.
• The event will be held on Friday, March 1. We will have a school- wide pajama day that day to kick off our student council spirit month.
• For the week of Feb 25 – March 1, you will hear a Dr. Seuss quote on the morning announcements.
• At 8:55 each morning that same week, we will have a school-wide DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time. All students and teachers will grab a book and head into the hallway for 20 minutes of reading time. Each minute will count as 29 miles on our US map, so by the time we read 100 minutes at the end of the week, we will have really read ACROSS America!!
• We will be having a door decorating contest again this year. Choose a favorite class book and decorate your door to match that theme. (It does not have to be Dr. Seuss.) Awards will be given for silliest/funniest, most student involvement, most creative, and best theme. Please make sure your door is decorated by Monday, Feb 25. You can decorate the outside of your door, but please do not cover the window.
• If you would like a guest reader to come to your room, please send me an email so I can schedule one for you. If you’d like to BE a guest reader, you can let me know that too!Check out the bus expectations Please review with students this week

Fun FREE PD day
Have you thought about going to one of the best literacy professional development events in the tri-state area? Yes, I'm talking about the Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project Alumni Reunion on Saturday, March 16th at Columbia University in NYC. This free event is presented by Lucy Caulkins and the staff developers who work with the Reading and Writing Project. Thousands of teachers attend, not just because it's free, but because the quality of these workshops is outstanding. There are over 125 sessions from which to choose! This year, Jason Reynolds will be the keynote speaker. You may know him as the author of Ghost, Patina, All American Boys, and the award-winning Long Way Down.
Join me on the bus trip that the West Jersey Reading Council is offering. It departs from the Hotel ML in Mount Laurel at 6:00 a.m. and returns there around 5:30 p.m. It costs $40 which is cheaper than tolls, gas, and parking, plus you get snacks on the bus both ways, and you get to network with other area teachers. Below is a link to the Eventbrite registration for the bus trip. Please feel free to share this with colleagues in other districts and to reach out to me if you'd like more information! I hope to see you on the bus!
Law Day Contest- Copies at the sign in book
I am writing to extend an invitation to all Burlington County Schools to participate in the 2019 Law Day Art and Writing Competition, hosted by the 87th Air Base Wing Office of the Judge Advocate. The Law Day Contest is open to all K-12 students in Burlington County. Students can choose whether they would like to participate in the art or writing portion of the contest, or both. Deadline for submissions is April 19th. After the submissions are mailed in, they will be sorted by grade-level and judged by a panel of three individuals from one of the participating units on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. The winning submissions will then be displayed in the unit’s headquarters or office building for one year.
Law Day is held on May 1st every year to celebrate the role of law in our society and to cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal profession. This year’s theme is Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society. You may review the attached documents for more information about Law Day and the 2019 Law Day Contest.
We look forward to Burlington County School District’s participation in Law Day 2019. Thank you for your time and if you have any questions, feel free to reach me by phone or email.

Yearbook!!
Below is a link to a yearbook folder. I am asking if you could put in photos of your students as events take place over the year. These could be classroom based activities, field trips, school-wide events, etc. The yearbook is a great point of pride in the district and I can't wait to see what we can create this year!
