From The Principal Tony White.......

Last Wednesday was our first CommUNITY Day of the school year, and what a CommUNITY Day it was! Every early release day, we run a special schedule in which each grade level participates in activities designed to build a sense of community while also developing appreciation for each unique individual within that community. If we think about it from our Eagle's perspective, they each sit in a desk which is part of a classroom which is part of a school which is part of a school district which is part of a county which is part of a state which is part of the United States which is part of the world which is part of the Milky Way which is part of the universe. Whew! We'll catch our breath here for a moment, and as we process that "deep thought," it truly highlights how connected each living thing is to one another...and how important it is that we honor that connection. Our first CommUNITY Day was all about teamwork. Whether you want to think of it as "Teamwork makes the dream work," "Together Everyone Achieves More," or as one of our Eagles said, "If we do not work together, we will not get it done." We did some teambuilding activities and our Eagles also created artistic representations of themselves in quarter circles which then were put together as complete circles. The idea being that these masterpieces make up the Norton Creek masterpiece!

Speaking of connection and community, it was so wonderful to see you all last night at Back to School Night! Thank you for taking the time to come to Norton Creek, take in the sights of this beautiful building, and to meet with our fabulous teaching team here. We are always inspired by your passionate dedication to Norton Creek and our Eagles' education and so appreciate our very important partnership with each of you!

Have a wonderful weekend making memories with your favorite people, Norton Creek, and if you enjoy the game of football, enjoy the start of the NFL season!

Kick-A-Thon 2022

Norton Creek will be supporting the annual Kick-A-thon that be held at St. Charles North this year on October 7th. It will be the St. Charles East vs St. Charles North game at St. Charles North. Proceeds from donations this year will benefit Colette A. Miles Foundation, Justin Hardy Foundation-#HARDYSTRONG, and Fox Valley Food For Health.

Mr. White will be kicking for these charities along with some of our very own families/students at Norton Creek. Families will be notified if they have been chosen to kick this year. Students can bring in donations to support the Kick-A-Thon. The main office will have the donation jar and a banner outside the community room for students to sign during lunch.

5th Grade Choir Information

Dear Families of 5th Grade Students!

I am thrilled to announce that this year D303 is again offering a 5th Grade Choir Program for ALL Elementary Schools! This program will run in a similar fashion as the current Elementary Band and Orchestra programs with a weekly before school rehearsal, but will NOT conflict with current band and orchestra rehearsals. The choir program will run from late September through May, with our first rehearsal being Friday, September 30th!

DATE/TIME: Choir will meet on Friday mornings at Norton Elementary School from 7:15-7:55 a.m. Parents/guardians are responsible for dropping their choir student(s) off at Norton Creek no earlier than 7:10 a.m. Rehearsal location will be the MUSIC ROOM!

FEE: There is a $40 fee to participate in D303 musical ensembles, including choir. This will be paid through Pushcoin in the Home Access Center. If your child has already paid this fee for band or orchestra, there is no additional fee for choir! Please contact me with any payment questions and concerns. If your student qualifies for free or reduced school fees, the same will apply to the $40 participation fee. This payment will be set up after registration! :)

UNIFORM: Students will also be asked to purchase a choir “uniform” t-shirt later in the year.

CONCERTS: Performance dates are yet to be determined this school year!

The goal of the 5th grade elementary choir program is to offer a formal choral music opportunity to our young students and to enrich their musical experience while preparing for middle and high school vocal music possibilities. We will work on ensemble practice, team building, vocal technique, vocal health, unison and part-singing, all through a rich variety of vocal music repertoire. I look forward to this adventure and hope your student will be a part of this wonderful experience!
