Please RSVP by Monday, Nov 15th.
If your child will not be coming to school please call the school office at 715-261-0190 or send an email to etaylor@wausauschools.org by 9:00 a.m. that school day. Feel free to leave a voicemail with your child’s name, grade and absence reason. If we do not hear from a family by 9:00 a.m. a phone call will be made to the parents inquiring about the absence.
Please note a student may not be excused by a parent for more than ten (10) days per school year. The student must complete any course work missed during the absence. Examples of reasons for being absent that can be counted under these 10 parent approved days include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. professional and other necessary appointments (e.g., medical, dental, and legal) that cannot be scheduled outside of the school day
2. illness without a medical excuse from a physician
3. attend a funeral
4. vacations
It’s imperative that you know the District will not test students without parental/guardian consent.
FAQs
WHEN IS TESTING AVAILABLE? Testing started Monday, November 1 on a limited basis.
WHERE: A mobile unit is visiting multiple school campuses throughout the Wausau School District offering free COVID-19 PCR testing. Closer to December, ‘Wellness Cottages’ will open up on each school campus where the testing will be administered.
WHAT ARE WELLNESS COTTAGES? ‘Wellness Cottages,’ which will be available on each school campus across the Wausau School District, are small buildings that will be staffed by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services for the purpose of administering free COVID-19 PCR testing.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE TESTING? All Wausau School District students, their immediate family members, District staff, along with their immediate family members, are eligible if they are either symptomatic for COVID-19 or close contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
WHAT DOES THE TESTING COST? Nothing. It will cost nothing to receive a COVID-19 PCR test. It is being paid for by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
WILL THE WAUSAU SCHOOL DISTRICT TEST MY CHILD WITHOUT MY CONSENT? Absolutely not. No student will ever be tested for COVID-19 without the consent of a parent/guardian.
WHO IS DOING THE TESTING? The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is providing the staff to do the testing.
IF I’M A STAFF MEMBER, STUDENT, OR IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER OF A STAFF MEMBER OR STUDENT, HOW DO I OBTAIN A TEST?
FOR STUDENTS: Parents have a couple of options for their child(ren). Parents can fill out a consent form above and drop it off at their child(ren)’s school. Parents could also bring their child(ren) to the mobile unit or wellness cottage for testing. There they could register their child(ren) for testing, or they could even pre-register them at the link above.
FOR STAFF AND/OR IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS: Staff members and/or immediate family members can either pre-register for tests above or they can show up to the mobile unit or wellness cottage to register.
WHAT KIND OF COVID-19 TESTING DOES THE MOBILE UNIT DO? The mobile unit does both antigen and PCR testing. However, the Wausau School District only accepts a negative PCR test on a student with symptoms.
IS ANY OF THIS PAID FOR BY THE DISTRICT? No. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is paying for the mobile unit, the materials, construction, and staffing of the Wellness Cottages, along with the testing.
