Ancient Mesopotamia

Learn the ancient wonders of Mesopotamia.



1.It was located in the Fertile Crescent between the Tigris and the Euphrates Rivers. Their soil is really rich. The soil is called silt. Mesopotamia means "land between to rivers".
3.Mesopotamia has a hot and dry climate ,but in the spring the rivers flood and the ground gets rich. In the summer it sometimes gets up to 120.

4.Mesopotamia is now know as Iraq. The country that we are fighting against right now.

5.Mesopotamia is 6372.69 miles away from. Wow, after reading that it makes me feel a lot safer.



1.Sumerians:3500-1800 B.C., Akkadians:2340-2125 B.C., Amorites:1800-1530 B.C., and the Hittites:1600-717 B.C.

2.These are the requirements to start a civilization. First step you find land to build a city. Second you need a government and military. Third you need a social structure (economic power). Fourth you need to develop technology. Fifth you need to develop a written language. Sixth you need to have a religion. Last step have a cultural activity.

3.Hammurabi had made the first written laws. He had made 282 laws for daily life. He was also Babylon's king after the city-state Ur was weakened .

These are some of his laws that I thought was interesting."If anyone steal the property of a temple or of the court, he shall be put to death, and also the one who receives the stolen thing from him shall be put to death". "If anyone bring an accusation of any crime before the elders, and does not prove what he has charged,he shall, if it be a capital offense charged, be put to death." "If anyone bring an accusation against a man, and the accused go to the river and leap into the river, if he sink in the river his accuser shall take possession of his house. But if the river prove that the accused is not guilty, and he escape unhurt, then he who had brought the accusation shall be put to death, while he who leaped into the river shall take possession of the house that had belonged to his accuser". "If anyone ensnare another, putting a ban upon him, but he cannot prove it, then he that ensnared him shall be put to death".

5.Gilgamesh is a ancient king of Uruk. People say he was the first superhero. People also said he was part god. They also said he had many special powers.



1.They planted wheat, barley, dates, and vegetables (cucumber, onions, apples, and spices).

2.When the fields were poisoned it was hard for them to grow crops. They had abandon those fields and that would be one more field gone.

3. They ate bread and drunk a lot of beer (up to a gallon a day). They would sometimes drink cow milk but because of the hot climate it would sour. They also ate vegetable stew, fish, fruits (apples, pears, grapes, figs, quinces, plums, apricots, mulberries, melons, and pomegranates), and pistachio nuts. Cakes were made for special occasion it was made out of butter, cheese, dates, flour, and raisins.

4.It would make the soil rich to grow crops.

5.First you have to flood your field from your irrigation ditch. Second you must run a plough through your field to break up the soil. Third pull the harrow around the field to make it smooth and level. Fourth you must sow the seeds(spread the seeds). Fifth you water your fields three times after you have sown it. Sixth you gather it together then take it to the threshing house.



1. The Hanging Gardens did not actually hang, but it was a terrace or a balcony. It didn't rain much. So they had to get water from the Euphrates River useing a chain pump.

2. The wheel is important because if we didn't have it how would we have cars, trucks, trains, plane, and etc.

3. Cuneiform was the written language in Mesopotamia. Babylonian invented cuneiform.

4.At the top of the pyramid is the king, then the Priests, then Upper Class, then Lower Class, and then the slaves.

5.A ziggurat is temple. The Sumerians believed that powerful gods in the sky. They built a ziggurat to have religious ceremonies for the gods.
