STAAR Assessments Spring 2020
Texas students in the third, fourth, and fifth grades will participate in the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) this spring. STAAR is a state-required assessment program designed to measure the full range of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in each subject area. STAAR tests include writing at grade 4, reading and mathematics in grades 3, 4, and 5, and science at grade 5. We hope that students will regard the test as important, but that they will not approach the test with undue anxiety. In accordance with state guidelines, your son or daughter will test on the following dates:
We Need Your Help
In order to accommodate our students who have physical needs, we ask that you DO NOT routinely park in the front parking to drop off and pick up students both in the morning and in the afternoon. At NO time can a child walk across the crosswalk without a parent. Be mindful of the designated parking spots.
When walking across Midway, please use the crosswalk to avoid dangerous situations.
Last we ask that you leave early in the morning to avoid last minute delay. Be a patient, respectful driver.
The safety of our students is our #1 priority. Thank you for your cooperation.

School Day Reminders
We have supervision on campus beginning at 7:00. At 7:30, kids can go to their classrooms. The carpool lane is virtually empty between 7:15-7:30, so that's a great time to pull through quickly and go on about your day. Planning to arrive at school even a few minutes earlier will keep you from sitting in too much carpool traffic, and it'll give your child the opportunity to get settled into the day before instruction begins.
House Meetings
Earlier this year, Barksdale implemented the House System to encourage a positive climate and culture for the students and staff. Each month students meet with their assigned House group and build relationships with students and teachers from other grade levels. When we have a House meeting we encourage the students and staff to wear their assigned House color. Below are the dates of the remaining House meetings for the 2019-2020 school year. If you do not know the color house that your child is in, please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher.
House meeting dates:
