REMINDER - Class Placement for 2019-2020
Dear Parents,
While it is hard to believe, our teachers will now begin the class placement process for the 2019-2020 school year. We make class placement decisions based on the best interest of all children in the class and ask you to continue to trust our professional judgment in determining class placements. Our teachers see the full picture of learning styles, needs, and personalities when they are developing class make-up. Having said this, we do value input from parents as you are aware of the various teaching styles in your child’s academic career. As always, we will be following the Board of Education procedure regarding class placement:
In accordance with Board of Education procedure E040.17, The building principal will have the responsibility and the authority for the assignment of each student to his or her class and, therefore, his or her teacher with the best interests of the child in mind. The principals will not take requests to place children with particular teachers. The parent(s) will have the opportunity to inform the principal or designee in the spring prior to classroom assignments concerning the child's learning style, specialties and difficulties, and particular needs, personal or educational. The parent(s) is/are also encouraged to discuss with the principal the child's progress in the fall once classes are underway. However, the principal will make the final determination in placing all children.
If there is something imperative you feel would benefit our staff in the placement process, please provide us this information in writing. We ask for letters to be delivered to the main office and not sent via email to ensure they are received. Please remember your letter should not contain a request for a specific teacher. Additionally, placement with a teacher that an older sibling had will not be automatic. All children have different needs and it is not a foregone conclusion that having a student placed with the same teacher as a sibling will be the best possible placement. We take each child’s academic and social-emotional needs into account when determining placement, therefore having a teacher you are familiar with may or may not be in the child’s best interest. It is important to note, teachers will reference these letters during the placement process, and I ask you to refrain from writing any negative comments about a particular teacher. Similarly, while there are occasions when it is necessary to ensure particular students not be placed together, we ask you to keep your peer requests to a minimum. It is vital for children to continue to develop new friendships at the elementary level.
Julian Curtiss is projected to have 17 sections next year. We will have 2 sections of first grade, and three sections in all other grade levels. Therefore, teacher line-up will be changing for the 2019-2020 school year. Teachers are currently assigned as follows:
Kindergarten - Tania Comerford, Dana Gubitosa, Michelle Salomon
1st grade - Madeleine Hannah, Courtney Harrison
2nd grade - Keren Brown, Samantha Shuster, Colleen Sexton
3rd grade - Christine DelPiano, Jenna Mazzilli, (To be Announced)
4th grade - Keturah Engle, Sandra Grandinetti, James Librandi
5th grade - Stacey Fabion, Mary O’Connor, Heather Stewart
Please note that teacher assignment is always subject to change. Should you hear of new families moving into your neighborhood, please encourage them to come and register their children as soon as possible to ensure we have accurate enrollment projections.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and support. All letters must be received by Friday, May 10, 2019. Formulating class lists is a lengthy process, therefore any letters coming in after this date will not be considered.
Estimados Padres,
Jardín Infantil - Tania Comerford, Dana Gubitosa, Michelle Salomon
Primer Grado - Madeline Hannah, Courtney Harrison
Segundo Grado - Keren Brown, Samantha Shuster, Colleen Sexton
Tercer Grado - Christine DelPiano, Jenna Mazzilli, (Se anunciará)
Cuarto Grado - Keturah Engle, Sandra Grandinetti, James Librandi
Quinto Grado - Stacey Fabion, Mary O’Connor, Heather Stewart
Crossing Guard on Anderson Road
Many parents have been inquiring about the Crossing Guard on Anderson Road.
The Police Department does not have a full-time employee for that spot at this time. They are filling the spot with substitutes for the time being. When a full-time employee or substitute is available the time at the post is as follows:
Morning: 7:45-8:30 am
Afternoon: 2:40-3:25 pm
On days that a substitute is not available, a police officer is put on the post but the time at the post is shorter:
Morning: 8:00-8:20 am
Afternoon: 2:35 -3:00 pm
The police department is trying to fill the position. Please note that if the police are called away for more important business it is possible that the corner could be without a crossing guard.

Warm Weather Reminders
The warm weather has finally arrived and the students are sporting their summer attire. We want our students to be comfortable while we ensure that they dress appropriately for school. A student’s choice of clothing or grooming styles has been held to fall within his/her right to privacy as a form of self-expression. The Board of Education may not impose limitations on dress in which fashion or taste is the sole consideration; however, it is requested that students follow the following guidelines:
1. Clothing and accessories must be free of offensive signs, slogans or language and may not refer to alcohol, firearms, or any other illegal item.
2. See-through, sheer, and halter or bare midriff tops are prohibited. Do not wear off the shoulder or spaghetti strap tops. Tank top straps should be at least 2 inches wide. Shirts with the student's backs exposed are not allowed.
3. Hats must be removed upon entering the building.
4. Shorts and skirts must be of an appropriate length. A good rule of thumb is the middle of the thigh or the point on the leg where the child’s fingertips end when holding their arm straight at their sides.
5. Flip Flop sandals are NOT to be worn. These are dangerous when walking up and down steps and playing at recess.
6. Pajamas may not be worn as outerwear.
Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in the parent being contacted to bring a change of clothing. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.
While writing about warm weather rules we also want to remind parents that students in any grade are not permitted to play on the playground without a parent or guardian present at any time! Please do not give your child permission to play on the playground without supervision right after school. Please do not send your child to the playground while meeting with a teacher or volunteering at the school. Your child is welcome to sit in an area close to you while you conduct your business at school.
