Week at a Glance

Reflecting on the past week...
As with our winter, the first week back to school after Christmas Break was relatively quiet.... and that's a good thing, right? Grade meetings were completed, report cards were run, PLC meetings were productive, and the week ended with mass.
As the PLCs were working on solidifying course offerings, descriptions, and textbooks, Administration was working to update the 2020-21 registration process, technology policies, curriculum guide, and the calendar. As soon as the general calendar and various policies are updated, we will be pushing them out for our Staffulty.
In addition, Mr. Price and Ms. Novy are also making arrangements for Formal Evaluations, so if you receive an email requesting to schedule your evaluation, please respond promptly, as it can be quite difficult to schedule all the teachers that we need to. Thank you ahead of time for your assistance with this!
The athletic department was also very busy this week... with events every single day! Unfortunately, the weather got in the way a little for this weekend... but thank you for continuing to support our student athletes by attending their events and recognizing their accomplishments!
Finally, our students left mid-week to go downstate and attend Theaterfest! Theaterfest is a yearly event in which theater students can attend a variety of workshops to learn about the various jobs related to a theater production. In addition, students are able to apply for both college auditions as well as to be a part of the yearly state production. The students who were picked from last year's state applications work together throughout the year, with the culminating production to be seen by all on Saturday of Theaterfest. One of our own, Emily Ostrowski, was picked last year to be part of this year's All State Production of Aida as one of the Scenic Crew. I was fortunate enough to see a final rehearsal of this production, and it was amazing! Way to go, Emily! Let's hope some Marian students are picked for next year's All-State Production! Finally, we received word from Mrs. Connell that three Marian students had quite a few college interviews lined up! Joseph Walsdorf was called by 17 schools, Emily Ostrowski by 20 schools, and Mary Narusis by 21 schools. Our students are truly amazing Make sure you congratulate them when you see them next week!
What's coming up?
Rachel's Challenge Assembly 1-15-20
As we shared at our Late Start this past Wednesday, the Rachel's Challenge assembly and event will take place on Wednesday, January 15. The first assembly will be at 8:15 am in the auditorium with our 9th & 10th graders. The 11th & 12th graders will attend the assembly in the auditorium at 10:00 am. Please click here for the special bell schedule. Remember that this may be a very emotional day...and please be a supportive as possible, knowing that Guidance will be available as well. Please also note the following...
- Teachers who have only 9th & 10th graders during period 1 should bring class down to auditorium and stay for the assembly.
- Teachers who have only 11th & 12th graders during period 3 should bring class down to auditorium and stay for the assembly.
- If you have a mixed class and need to stay with some students, please send the students who should be attending, to the auditorium.
**We are trying to figure out a way in which every teacher can attend one of the two assemblies. Please continue to check emails, as we intend on communicating with staff on plans to cover one of their two classes. "Stay tuned!"
You received an email this past week indicating that we will also be having an extended homeroom on Friday, 1/17 as a followup to the Rachel's Challenge assemblies. Remember, our student mentors will be coming into the Freshmen Homerooms to work with the 9th graders, so we are asking that you hold a brief discussion with your 10-12th grade homeroom classes utilizing the post assembly questions we had provided during Late Start. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Hilton.
Finally, Mrs. Varga is holding another practice ACT testing event Wed. and Thurs. afternoon from 2:45 - 4:15 pm in the library. Thanks, Mrs. Varga, for helping our students prepare for such an important test!
Have a great week, and just think... the week will end with us welcoming a three-day weekend from Jan. 18-20! Something to look forward to!
