Charger Check-In
October 28, 2021
A Note from Ms. Owens
We are having a fabulous Red Ribbon Week at St. Catherine. Thank you to everyone who was able to support our Pink Day on Tuesday. Your generosity raised over $390 - all of which will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on behalf of the St. Catherine community. For more information about this organization, please see the link below.
In addition to our pink clothes, our crazy socks, our trivia questions and our hidden red ribbons, we have a lot of learning going on! In 1st grade, students are mastering the short u in their phonics. They are working with words like mug, duck, sun, etc. Our 3rd graders are reading about bats and spiders and working to identify key details and ideas in reading passages. In 5th grade, our students are reading Restart, an engaging story about a boy who falls off a roof and doesn't remember that he was an incredibly mean person. Some of our 8th graders are solving two-step equations in math. I enjoyed watching them work together to figure out their errors. It was an excellent example of a growth mindset!
Friday, our K-8 students will celebrate Halloween. (Our PK students had their celebrations Thursday morning!) Our fabulous teachers and room parents have collaborated in planning how each classroom will celebrate Halloween.
- Students are welcome to wear their school-appropriate Halloween costumes tomorrow.
- Students will need to wear their "regular" face masks. Because of this, please refrain from using face paint so we can keep the masks clean.
- Masks and weapons (or accessories that might turn into weapons) that are part of the costume need to be left at home.
- Weather-permitting our Happy Halloween Parade will start at 1PM. Students will exit the building out of Door 9, walk the perimeter of the parking lot twice, and then walk north on Kedvale to re-enter via the church doors. Families are welcome to come see the parade.

Red Ribbon Week
This year’s theme is "Drug Free Looks Like Me."
DID YOU KNOW?
- Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t; yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.
- Red Ribbon Week (October 23-31), the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation, is your opportunity to get the ongoing conversation started.
- Visit the button below to learn more about Red Ribbon Week and get tips for talking to your kids about drugs. The life you save may be that of your own child or a dear friend.
- At school, students will engage in activities that promote a drug free and healthy lifestyle.
Please partner with us and discuss this message at home, at the dinner table, at family outings, and with friends and extended family.
