Rock music is a genre of popular music that originated as "rock and roll" in the United States in the 1950s, and developed into a range of different styles in the 1960s and later, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States.[1][2] It has its roots in 1940s' and 1950s' rock and roll, itself heavily influenced by rhythm and blues and country music. Rock music also drew strongly on a number of other genres such as blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical and other musical sources.

Musically, rock has centered on the electric guitar, usually as part of a rock group with electric bass guitar and drums. Typically, rock is song-based music usually with a 4/4 time signature using a verse-chorus form, but the genre has become extremely diverse. Like pop music, lyrics often stress romantic love but also address a wide variety of other themes that are frequently social or political in emphasis. The dominance of rock by white, male musicians has been seen as one of the key factors shaping the themes explored in rock music. Rock places a higher degree of emphasis on musicianship, live performance, and an ideology of authenticitythan pop music.

By the late 1960s, referred to as the "golden age"[3] or "classic rock"[1] period, a number of distinct rock music subgenres had emerged, including hybrids like blues rock, folk rock, country rock, and jazz-rock fusion, many of which contributed to the development of psychedelic rock, which was influenced by the countercultural psychedelic scene.

I chose to translate this text because i wanted to translate a text that had something to do with music, and i saw this article on wikipedia that was about rock so i decided to translate a few paragraphs from that article. to translate the text i looked at each line at a time, then i tried to rephrase that in Icelandic, if i did not understand a word i had to google translate that, but only one word at a time because you can´t trust google translate to more than one word.

Ted.com summaries

Here i have chosen three videos from the website ted.com, and i will be talking about them
David Blaine, a magician talks about how hard it was to hold his breath underwater for 17 minutes. He starts of by talking about the achievements he had earned by doing things that doctors said were impossible, for instance he had lived in in a coffin in the ground for a long time, as well as lived in a glass cage with only water for some time in London. he talks about all the times he tried to cheat and trick people into thinking he was not breathing but his tricks always failed so he decided that he would really do it without any trick. he talks about how all the painful things he did to be able to breathe under water for so long.
I decided to watch this video because i saw his video and i knew who he was, i had heard about this achievement of his some time ago and i had sen some of his magic tricks. i also wanted to see how was able to hold his breath for such a long time without suffering brain damage or dying.
Benjamin Zander talks about classical music, he talks about how beautiful it is, he says that unlike everyone else he thinks that everyone enjoys classical music, they have just yet to discover that. That means that his main focus with this presentation is to make everyone listening to him understand classical music and see how beautiful it is.
I chose to listen to this video because i decided to listen to an article that was connected to music, so i went to check out things that were about music and this was the most watched one. I was also interested in how he would talk about classical music
in this 9 minute video Randal Munroe talks about how you can answer many questions with math that most people have no idea can be answered. he says that he is a cartoonist that has a website that he uses to help people answer questions with logic, math and cartoons. in this video he answers one of the questions that were submitted to him, the question asked what would happen if a baseball were to be thrown at 90% of the speed of light.
I chose this video because i wanted to listen to a bit less serious video than the classical music one. So i looked for funny videos and this was a bit entertaining.
