Idle Free Zones

Idle-Free Zones

As a reminder, all parking spots on our campus are Idle-Free Zones. This includes the spots in front of the school and in the parent pick-up line while you are waiting for the 2:50 p.m. dismissal bell. Please turn off your vehicle, even if someone is waiting inside it. This helps keep the air clean for our students and staff. Thank you for your attention to this health and safety matter.

Idling Hurts Young Lungs

Idling your car's engine sends engine exhaust into the air that hurts our environment and –

especially -- our kids.

Car exhaust contains carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, particulate matter,

and cancer-causing toxins such as benzene.

Car exhaust is more dangerous for children because:

• their lungs are still developing

• they breathe faster than adults, and

• they breathe 50% more air per pound of body weight.

National Principal Day May 1

In appreciation of our Principal, Rae Wood, who supports, listens, collaborates & encourages the OHI staff not only every day but has continued to lead OHI with confidence through this year's extra & unexpected challenges. We say "Thank You".

It has not been an easy transition for any of us; however, your leadership and positive attitude have helped pull us through these difficult times. Your long hours and hard work have made such a difference to ensure the learning and growth of both students and staff. You have been a prime example of strength, wisdom, and compassion for all of us here at OHI.

Mahalo Ms. Wood!

Teacher Appreciation Week May 3-7

As we all reflect back on the past year and the plan of action that allowed us to move forward during these uncertain times it has unmistakably been a time for some quick changes.

More than ever during this time we have been called to be more flexible and supportive beyond our expectations.

As we think about moving forward, we recognize teachers as one of our most important resources to our OHI students. You all show your support and care every single day and not just during times of a pandemic or emergency.

As we enter Teachers Appreciation Week we would like to send our utmost and sincere appreciation for your tremendous dedication, hard work, inspiration, hope, and empowerment that you selflessly show to our students.

Thank you for all that you do!

National School Nurse Day May 12

Where to begin. We sincerely appreciate our nurses here at OHI so very much and the word "thank you" somehow does not even seem to be enough for being on the front lines of care.

The kindness and dedication that you show our students, staff, and parents does not go unnoticed.

Thank you for always putting our students first no matter how grueling your day will be. We thank you for providing an empathetic ear and a compassionate heart. You all are the heartbeats of our schools.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

21-22 School Year Electives

Be on the lookout this month for an email with information regarding elective choices for the 21-22 school year from Oak Harbor Intermediate and North Whidbey Middle School.

At OHI, we are looking forward to offering Band, Art, and Music as our electives in the 21-22 school year and all students will have access to Physical Education.

We do our best to accommodate all elective requests but filling out this information early is the best way to ensure your student has access to the classes they are most interested in. More information will be coming out this month.

A Note From Our Attendance Office

If your family is preparing to move outside of the district, please notify our attendance secretary, Ms. Karina Hoppock two weeks prior to your last day, if possible. Also, if your student will be absent three or more days, please contact Ms. Hoppock for a student contract.
