Yearbook Wins All Kansas Rating

The yearbook staff received an All Kansas rating for the 2022 yearbook. It was a back to back win from the Kansas Scholastic Press Association, which ranks the best yearbooks in the state.

Congratulations to the 2022 editors Kaylyn Sharp and Trista Davis as well as the other staff members who worked many hours and late nights to complete the book.

The best part is many of last year’s staff are still here working on the new yearbook, and it’s looking better than last year’s. Kaylyn Sharp and Alyssa Hannigan are the editors this year.

TPS Weather Notifications

As the weather begins to cool, we want to remind families and staff of school closing notification procedures.

As we make decisions about closing school, a number of factors come into play, including the safety of travel but also the safety of students who will be home during the day.

Should school be canceled, we will:

  • Send a text, email, and/or phone call via SchoolMessenger
  • Update the district social media pages
  • Update the district website
  • Contact our local media partners

To sign up for text message updates, text Y to 67587. To learn more about school delays and closures, please review our How We Communicate With Families document.

COVID-19 District Update

If your student has tested positive for COVID-19 or had a COVID exposure, please complete the TPS COVID-19 Self-Reporting form at topekapublicschools.net by clicking the "Report a COVID-19 Exposure" button on our homepage.

Once you have completed the form, TPS Nursing Services will contact you with more information, including a return to school date and information on Test to Learn options.

During Winter Break, if you have self-reported using the form and your student needs to remain at home instead of returning on January 5, you will receive communication from TPS Nursing Services.

Your child should not return to school until given guidance from school health officials.

THS Holiday Office Hours

Due to the holiday, THS offices will be closed over the break

from Dec. 19, 2022 through Jan. 2, 2023.

THS Reminder Regarding Blankets

Blankets need to stay at home and are not to be worn at school for a variety of academic and behavioral reasons. If you need a coat, hat, or gloves, let your division prinicpal know. Starting on Monday, Dec. 5th, blankets will be collected at the door and can be picked up after school. Any blanket not claimed within 5 days will be donated to a local charity.

Topeka Metro Offers New Service

The Topeka Metropolitan Transit Authority announces plans to launch a microtransit service for the southeast part of Topeka, starting in January 2023. The on-demand service, named MOD (Metro On-Demand), will allow customers to request curb-to-curb transportation within specific service areas. In addition, passengers will be able to request rides that would arrive within 15 minutes, which is similar to ride share services.

“As we continue to look for new ways to improve, we believe the more personalized nature of microtransit will be a great addition to our service," said Bob Nugent, Topeka Metro general manager. "Microtransit has been around for a while and has proven to be a more expedient and cost-effective way for folks to travel to where they need to go."

Passengers can access residential and commercial locations, or even connect with a fixed route bus for travel outside the defined zones. Hours of MOD operation will be Monday through Friday from 5:35 a.m. to 6:40 p.m., and Saturday from 8:15 a.m. to 6:40 p.m. Fees for this shared ride program will be $2 for a one-way ride. Reduced Fare and youth pricing options are available.

Topeka Metro will host a series of public meetings beginning November 30th into December 2022 to explain how MOD will operate and to answer questions. Please click on the link to access the public meeting notice in English. A Spanish version is available here.

A flyer explaining the service in English and Spanish can be found at this link.
