Fluoride Varnish Clinic at Maple Grove

Central District Health Department has some extra funding and has offered to come to our school to do a fluoride varnish clinic. Forms will be sent home with your child that you can fill out and sign if you would like your child to participate. The last few years have been hard on children and many have found it difficult to go to the dentist. We are aware that dental decay is the most prevalent disease affecting childhood contributing to a loss of productive learning hours! It is our hope that we can assist in helping children by strengthening their teeth and help referring those in need of care.

During this clinic, a licensed hygienist will do a screening exam and paint fluoride varnish on teeth of students who have signed up. This will only take a couple of minutes per child. Fluoride varnish is very safe and can be applied multiple times a year. Fluoride varnish is commonly applied every 3 to 6 months. Even more can be applied if the child has a higher risk of getting cavities such as eating a lot of sugary foods and not taking care of their teeth. Because only a small amount is “painted” on their teeth, they will not get too much. The result is a stronger tooth surface as the fluoride absorbs into the tooth structure. If your child is in between visits to the dentist, but has high risk habits for cavities (eats a lot of sugary food or does not have good brushing habits) then additional fluoride is advised and is very beneficial. After the clinic, we will send home a note for parents regarding our screening exam.

The clinic will be at Maple Grove, Tuesday, April 19th

**Note to parents: Whether you want your child to participate in the clinic or not, if they return a signed form (saying yes or no) they can pick a prize from our prize box.
