Clarkville School Te Kura ki Waimātao
Kia ora koutou.
Now we’ve hit Week 3 we are starting to see a break in the weather and we are all spending a little more time outside. Hopefully our fields will start to dry out and the children can make the most of these spaces in break times.
School Name
It’s official! The MOE has granted us permission to start using our new name, Clarkville Te Kura ki Waimātao. Look out for our new school signs which we hope to get up over the next week. You will also start to see our new logo on our website and letterheads. With our whole school Inquiry this term our children are delving deeper into our cultural narrative and will be retelling the story of our place in their own way. This will bring our new name to life.
Maths No Problem
This year our teachers have carried out an action research project into Maths No Problem. The report was presented to the Board on Wednesday. Overall reflections from teachers and students have been convincingly positive. The most notable reflections can be summarised below:
The structure, routine and focus on mastery has resulted in students feeling greater confidence and engagement in maths
The lesson content hooks the children in
The daily independent skill practice has developed perseverance and a positive mindset
The range of content in daily practice caters for all learners
Teachers have noted increased confidence in their own maths teaching
The Maths Buddy system is a key element in mastering content and developing maths discussion
The marked jump in PAT data this year has supported the teacher ‘hunches’ that overall achievement has improved
Health Curriculum
We have reviewed our parent feedback and the majority of comments show support for the ‘Navigating the Journey’ programme at Clarkville. I met with the North Canterbury Mana Ake co-ordinator last week and she spoke favourably about the quality of this resource. Team leaders will keep you informed through the Hero app and indicate when their programme will start, with an overview of the content.
North Canterbury Cantamaths
Congratulations to our Year 6, 7 and 8 teams who competed at the competition on Wednesday. It’s a great experience to compete under pressure with almost 30 teams across North Canterbury. The Year 7&8 teams will compete in the town competition in two weeks. Thank you to Sue Edwards who supported the organisation committee and Nick Burson who trained the teams.
‘Digging up the Past’ Clarkville Te Kura ki Waimātao
Thank you to the families who have contacted our Year 5&6 Clarkville History team with an offer to share their stories of Clarkville School history. If you are happy to chat to the team, or send through a story, please contact Billie Wakelin (Year 6 student) billie.wakelin@students.clarkville.school.nz
Car Park - Health and Safety
We are noticing that some children are walking through the staff carpark at the start and end of the school day. Please note that this area is out of bounds at these times for health and safety reasons.

Scooter Track Update
This week we held the first meeting for those interested in being a part of the working group. It was a good session to get everyone on the same page, and some basic plans to move forward with.
Our Next LEGO Fundraiser
After the fun of the last one we will once again be running a House of Bricks LEGO Fundraiser after school. The date for this event is Thursday the 8th of September. The MPF will be full of Lego to play with; suitable for kids of all ages.

There will be themed building areas from Friends, Star Wars, Technics, Duplo and more!
Plus a small amount of Lego you can purchase if you wish.
Bring your coins. We’ll have the sausage sizzle going for when you get hungry (although no food or drink near the Lego), plus tea/coffee area for the adults.
There will be limited tickets available, with the numbers restricted to 75.
Keep an eye out for details of how to book your tickets to this event coming soon!
Kings Seed Fundraiser
Keep an eye out next week for information on our Kings Seed Fundraiser. You'll be able to order packets of vegetables or flower seeds. Order sheets will be coming home with the kids! Orders can be dropped into the school office or emailed to clarkvillePTA@gmail.com.
All payments directly into the PTA account please: 12-3240-0114721-00. Please have all orders and payments in by Fri 2nd Sep, for delivery mid Sep. One total payment to the PTA per order form please.
This fundraiser enables children and families quality time in the garden through sowing seeds and growing plants together. Seeds can also be purchased to give as gifts to friends and family.
Spring is coming so hit up your family, friends and neighbours to support our school.
Sausage Sizzle Coordinator - still needed
Been thinking lately you’d like to be a more active member of our school community? We are looking for someone to take over the coordination of the monthly sausage sizzles. Please get in touch with the PTA if you think this is something you’d like to take on for the school. We don’t want to have to stop the sizzles as the kids love them, and it’s a great way to help support your school.
Keep an eye out for our upcoming Salmon Fundraiser!
Thanks, Kristy and Nic
