May 2020 Newsletter

Hello SLHS Families,

Believe it or not, May is here and June is just around the corner! Both months will move very quickly and summer will be here before we know it. However, there is still a great deal of work to accomplish between now and the end of the 4th quarter. In order for students to achieve at the level they are capable of, it is important that students are checking their emails and engaging with their teachers.

4th Quarter

Just a reminder, it is crucial for your child to continue to check their emails periodically throughout the school day. Teachers shared their 4th quarter standards/ objectives with your child last week. All teachers reinforced the importance of your child staying on top of their work and communicating with them. If students are falling behind, not responding to emails and not completing work, teachers and other support staff will be contacting parents to identify the reason.

Virtual SLHS Spirit Week

For the week of April 27-May 1, we had a SLHS Virtual Spirit Week! We asked students, staff and family members to email Mrs. Peer or myself with your pictures or videos. We posted all pictures and videos to the SLHS Instagram and SLHS Twitter pages. If you haven't already, please follow us!

Teacher Appreciation Week

This week (May 4-8) is designated as National Teacher Appreciation Week, with Tuesday, May 7th being National Teacher Appreciation Day. Time is set aside to provide students, parents, administrators and community members the opportunity to express their gratitude and appreciation for the hard work and dedication that our teachers demonstrate every day. The Saranac Lake High School is fortunate to have well-respected and exceptional teachers. I want to thank them for their tireless efforts to make the SLHS a place that both challenges and cares for its students. This year, we created a virtual Teacher Appreciation Week. I want to thank all the students and staff for participating.

Delivering Lawn Signs to Seniors

On Tuesday, May 5th, more than 20 SLHS staff delivered lawn signs to all 89 seniors. During the 8 hour parade, we traveled more than 100 miles. It was wonderful to see all the seniors and their families. Overall, it was incredible day. Special thank you's to Danny Peer, Fred Finn and Todd Claremont. These three gentlemen made the journey smooth and entertaining. Class of 2020 will never be forgotten! We miss you....
