Epsilon Systems Solutions IT Positions
Epsilon Systems Solutions is a privately held firm primarily focused on support to the defense industry (www.epsilonsystems.com). We have an opportunity in St. Petersburg Florida for students to support a real-time sensor netting system that enables high quality situational awareness and integrated fire control capability for the US Navy. I’m looking to bring on exceptional personnel with experience and skills in developing C++ and Linux as well as test engineers who know systems engineering, software testing, C++, Linux and MATLAB .
A critical aspect of this work is obtaining a DoD security clearance (which requires US citizenship). I'm hoping to find candidates now to start the process for the clearance which can take time, but I’m willing to get started. I am also working on a process for summer internships as well - we would prefer rising seniors for this.
Details for the work are below. While the positions require 2 years of experience, internship experience can qualify, as long as candidates can pass our technical review process.

Game Programming Scholarship
A few years ago, I was speaking at an event for young professionals (20s and 30s). Before my presentation, there was a panel discussion, with four professionals talking about how they became successful in their career.
They were offering the following advice:
"Follow your passions."
"If you can dream it, you can do it."
"Be your authentic self."
And the popular, "If you love what you are doing, it's not work."
It was one hollow, motivational-speak cliché after another.
They started taking questions from the audience. I asked, "Can you talk about a time you bombed big-time and how you recovered?"
And THAT, is when the really interesting stuff came out.
* One woman talked about hiding in the stairwell and crying her eyes out in frustration.
* A man talked about failing at his first job in sales.
* Another woman promised six contest winners pairs of tickets to a sold-out event, only to find out she had six tickets, not six pairs.
* The last panelist, who seemed a little full of himself, didn't own up to any mistakes. (THAT was his mistake.)
The stories were riveting. And when they talked about how they overcame those challenges, that's when the most compelling advice came out. Those panelists earned the respect of everyone in the room.
There are two lessons here:
1) Whenever you have Q&A time with a speaker, ask that question. “Can you tell us a time you failed and how you recovered?” Sometimes, that yields the most interesting content.
2) If you want to connect with any audience, don't talk about your successes, talk about your failures. Your disaster stories are infinitely more interesting than how brilliant or fortunate you are.
If you are experiencing a crisis, hold on. It will be a valuable story in the future.
