Welcome back!

The Counseling Department has designed these newsletters that you will receive each month via email to keep you updated on the latest information and upcoming events. We will also post the newsletter on our counseling website. Check out the site at http://blackmancounselor.wix.com/counselorspage for lots of great information.

We just finished our senior meetings where we had the opportunity to meet with each individual student. Ask your student about the information they received! We will start junior meetings next week and finish up with sophomore and freshmen meetings later in the month.

Senior Newsletters

Each month, seniors get a newsletter with scholarships and other helpful information. We gave the first one out in senior meetings, and students will receive the rest at the beginning of the month in their English class. If your student's newsletter doesn't make it home, they are always posted on our counseling website in the senior class section.

Tennessee Promise

The state of Tennessee is offering a new program that will provide two years of tuition-free community or technical college. The deadline for students to apply is before November 2, 2015. Apply at tnpromise.gov.

Students must file their FAFSA by Feb. 15, attend mandatory meetings held at local high schools with the partnering organization, and complete 8 hours of community service for each semester they receive TN Promise funding.

NCAA

If your student is planning to play sports at an NCAA Division I or II college, he/she must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. NCAA requires 16 core courses. Make sure your student has met those requirements by talking with their coach or counselor.
