Youth Ministry Connection
Zion Lutheran Church 9th-12th Grade
May 2022
Summer break is almost here! WOOHOO!!!
We began our month by celebrating the work that Pastor John and Ms. Lynn have done here at Zion over the past 2 and half decades. We pray that the new season of life upon them will be refreshing and relaxing. Their support for Youth Ministry has always been appreciated and encouraging and we will miss seeing Pastor John daily up here on the Hilltop!
May will be a busy month! We will continue on our Wednesday Night LIFE group journey to learn more about the 5 love languages and how they each play a role in our relationships. The Class of 2022 will be recognized on Sunday, May 15th. Sr. High is co-hosting a blood drive on campus on the same Sunday. Finally, we will "kidnap" our incoming freshman during the weekend of May 22nd. It will be a busy month with these events and the end of school festivities!
Chad and I will be out of town and unavailable from May 27-June 2nd as we celebrate our 20th anniversary. Feel free to reach out to the church office if you need anything at all during that time.
I have tried to be as informative as possible in each section below. Please let me know if you have any questions! Please fill out the quick prayer request link if there is any specific way I can be in prayer for you and your family!
In Christ,
Sherlyn
Wednesday Night Spring LIFE Group Continues...
Students, do you ever feel like what you are trying to say gets lost in translation? Have you ever wondered why no matter what you do, some people just don't appreciate your efforts? Have you ever felt like you are speaking a different language all together when trying to communicate with a friend? Has someone complimented you or given you a gift and you didn't really appreciate it but wasn't sure why?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then come to Wednesday night LIFE group and find out why!
Parents, your help to cover the meals is most appreciated! You can sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040545ADAD2BA7F49-wednesday1
The dates for Spring Session are as follows: April 6, April 27, May 4, May 1, and May 18.
Hang Time on May 1st & May 15th
Class of 2022 Graduate Recognition
On May 15th, we will be recognizing Zion's Class of 2022 Graduates! We are excited to highlight this class within our Zion family! Students, we need a couple of volunteers to help Mrs. Jones host the cake reception in the lobby from 9:30-10:30 (there will be no Connection Hour for Sr. High on this date as we have the blood drive going on as well). A separate email will go out with info about service opportunities for our Sr. High students for both the reception and blood drive and students can sign up for where they'd most like to serve.
Sr. High Sponsored Blood Drive on May 15th
On May 15th, Sr. High Ministry will be teaming up with We are Blood to host a blood drive on our campus. We are hosting this blood drive in honor of Keith Frank (Zion member, husband to Jane, and father to Avery and Brandon) who is fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia and other Zion members that are courageously battling cancer. There are just a couple of spots left if you want to donate! Donors must be 17 years of age and over 115 lbs. Sign up here: https://www.wrbdonor.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/61210
Students, we will need a couple you to greet donors as they arrive, and, Parents, we will need a couple of you to help manage that as well. There will be no Connection Hour on this Sunday as we will be hosting this and the Graduate Reception. I will send out a sign up for this is a separate email that will also include service opportunities during the graduate reception.
Please keep members of our Zion family that are battling cancer in your prayers!
Shhh!!! It's time for our annual Freshman Kidnapping on Sunday, May 22nd!
This is always a fun event! Make plans to attend Connection Hour and then we'll worship together as a Youth Group on Sunday, May 22nd at the 10:45 worship service. We will "kidnap" our upcoming 9th graders after church and take them to Typhoon Texas in Pflugerville. Remember, we want to try to make it a surprise for them, so keep it quiet! Please register ASAP if you can make it - Typhoon Texas is asking for a pretty firm head count by May 9th. Students will need to pay $20 to register and then Youth Ministry will take care of the remaining balance for each student. On REALM you will need to specify your meal choice of chicken strips or hamburger (1 combo meal is included in the ticket): https://onrealm.org/ZionLutheranChu42107/PublicRegistrations/Event?linkString=YjVjMTViNzQtYTIxMC00MmNhLWI3YjgtYWU4OTAxNjgxZWM5
Search Committee Update for Director of Youth Ministry Position
The Youth Director Search Committee has conducted several Zoom interviews. They still have a couple more to go and then will be in prayer over the next steps. Please hold this committee in your prayers. God already knows and we pray for His will to be clear as we move ahead!

Parenting Corner
Now that I have a teenager that is almost a Senior (yikes!), I find myself asking myself more and more, "What do I still need to teach her so that when she leaves home, she will be a grounded and responsible adult?" If you find yourself doing that too, then here is a helpful little list that can help guide us:
