COVID Testing
As a result of the NYS Department of Health mandate that schools offer weekly Diagnostic testing for students, we have worked with LCDOH to improve access to local testing without the drive to Mt. Morris. We will be offering testing services through the school in the coming weeks.
Diagnostic Testing is response testing in the event someone displays symptoms or is identified as a close contact. It is sometimes simply referred to as Response Testing.
If you or your child would like a simple diagnostic COVID test, please send an email to covid.testing@avoncsd.org. You will then receive a google form to choose a time for your child to be tested along with the consent form and intake form that will need to be completed prior to the test. If you have any questions please contact Michelle Burke at mburke@avoncsd.org
This is completely voluntary. It is simply an option for families in addition to working with their primary care providers or other community agencies that may offer testing.
Family Engagement Event October 27, 2021
Social and emotional learning is an important part of the Avon culture and student learning across the district. This learning includes the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to manage emotions, achieve goals, establish and maintain relationships, and to make responsible and caring decisions. Join us to learn more about what social-emotional learning is, Restorative Practices, Zones of Regulation, the BRAVES WAY, and more with members of the staff from across the district. This Family Engagement Event will take place at the High School Cafeteria from 6:30-7:30 PM. Please use the Google Form below to register for the session. Refreshments will be provided and activities will be available for school-age children during the session, in collaboration with the school's recreational program. Please register by Monday, October 25th.
Technology Tip for Parents/Guardians
The "To-Do" feature located in Google Classroom provides you one location to see Google Classroom assignments from all of your child's classroom teachers. In the To -Do view you can sort your assignments based on status (current, missing and completed). Enjoy this one location to check the status of assignments! To explore your child's Google Classroom, ask your child to login and show you on their district issued device or share their school login information with you. Google Classroom To-Do Infographic
UPK-4 Information
Fall Festivities: The students and teachers in the elementary grades will be having autumn celebrations within their classrooms on Friday, October 29, 2021. During these parties, the students will be able to wear their Halloween costume that they brought from home. We request that students refrain from wearing the costume to school, as this can be a distraction to their learning throughout the school day. The celebrations will vary in nature depending upon grade and classroom. Students will participate in learning activities which may include: themed center rotations, holiday stories, games, craft activities that are STEAM-related, and physical movement opportunities.
5-8 Information
School Picture Makeup/Retake Day: The Middle School Picture Makeup/Retake Day is scheduled for Thursday, November 4th. Last week, a flyer was sent home with middle school students about this event. The flyer included information about how to order pictures online. If you would like to order a picture package online, you can access the process at INTER-STATE.COM/ORDER. The order code for Avon Middle School is 59994PB.

Tuesday, October 26th: Wear Blue - "We are united against bullying."
Wednesday, October 27th: Twin Day - "We are stronger together."
Thursday, October 28th: PJ Day - "Let's put bullying to rest." or "We're dreaming of a bully free school."
Friday, October 29th: Halloween Costume Day- "Bullying is a TRICK, not a treat.”
Please Note: Student costumes must adhere to the dress code expectations outlined in the Avon Code of Conduct.
Bully Prevention Week (October 25th - 29th): To further highlight the importance of Bully Prevention Week, members of the Middle School Student Council will be making signs that will be posted throughout the building. Signs will highlight the following messages:
“We're all on the same team.”
"We are united against bullying.”
"We are stronger together."
"Let's put bullying to rest." or "We're dreaming of a bully free school."
"Bullying is a TRICK, not a treat.”
Lost and Found Student Items: There are a number of clothing items, water bottles, lunch bags, and various accessories (jewelry, scarves, gloves, and glasses) that have been found and placed on a table in the 7/8 wing. Also, Physical Education Teachers have a box of clothing items that have been left in the student lockers rooms that are being kept in the entrance of both lockers rooms for student retrieval. If you have noticed that your child is missing a piece of clothing or personal items, please encourage your child to look in the lost and found areas.
Middle School Student Drop Off and Pick Up:
As a way to improve safety during morning and afternoon drop off/pick up times at the middle school, the Middle School Safety Team has made the following changes:
- Access to the middle school parking lot has been restricted to school employee parking and parents/guests who need to park and enter the building. Handicap and visitor/guest parking are available to parents.
- Several staff members will be stationed at various points along the transportation loop to monitor the traffic flow along the transportation loop and to assist students with exiting their vehicles. Please Note: It is important that drivers move forward along the transportation loop to make room for more cars to drop off/pick up students.
- Parents who wish to park and wait with their child/children until the middle school doors located by the main office open at 7:40 am are encouraged to use the designated parking spaces along the football field to park/wait until they are ready to access the transportation loop for student drop off.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance with this new procedure for student drop off and pick up.
9-12 Information
Afterschool Supports: Marking period 1 ends on November 12th. Teachers are available for afterschool support from 2:30-3:05 pm Monday - Thursday. Please encourage your child/children to stay after for academic support.
Student Drop-off and Pick-up:
As a reminder, to improve traffic flow in the morning, we are requesting that parents drop-off students at the second drop-off point as indicated in the image below. This should allow traffic to flow further into the parking lot, which will allow more people to park rather than being in line on the service road. Please remind your children to use the crosswalks when walking in the bus loop. Doors will be unlocked at 7:40 am when staff are available to supervise.

SchoolTool Parent Portal
SchoolTool: In order to access your child’s progress reports and report cards, you will need to have a parent/ guardian portal account in the district’s school management system, SchoolTool. A parent/guardian portal access guide to SchoolTool is posted below to assist you in establishing your parent/guardian portal account. Once you have a parent/guardian portal account, you will have access to not only your child’s grades, but also to his/her attendance, daily schedule, behavioral reports, and state assessment scores. If you encounter any difficulties acquiring or accessing your parent/guardian portal account in SchoolTool, please feel free to contact Jim Ellis, the ACS Technology Coordinator, at jimellis@avoncsd.org.
