Teaching Children Empathy is More Important Than Ever
Developing a sense of empathy is an important developmental process for young children and one that can benefit them not only in childhood but well into adult life as well.
Explore Body Language With Feelings Charades
Click below to play charades with your family. To a kid, feelings are everything. They’re big, scary, fantastic, amazing and strange. It’s a lot to process! However, being able to identify our feelings is a foundation for establishing empathy.
Empathy Task Cards
Empathy is best taught by example. Show empathy each and every day in your own words and actions and your child will learn from you. Print these task cards and cut them out. Have your child discuss what they would do in each scenario.
BUILDING EMPATHY: LAUGHING WITH OR AT FRIENDS
Follow along with this story about Arthur. Is he laughing with his friends or at them? Think about the line between playing and bullying.
Building Empathy
When we have empathy, we look at the world from other people’s perspectives and understand how they’re feeling. This song gives examples of what it means to show empathy.
The Imagine Neighborhood
Each episode tells a story that’s amazing, fantastical, and maybe a little bananas, while it tackles the big feelings that come with growing up. And the Imagine Neighborhood gives you and your kids fun activities to do at home, in the car, or anywhere you talk to each other.
