November is National Career Development Month!
Families can support these efforts in a variety of ways:
- Discuss your jobs/careers and the paths, education and training that led you there.
- Discuss your students' talents and interests and what careers might best match those strengths & interests.
- Encourage your student to do some career investigating on their own: talk to older friends or siblings, family members, coaches & neighbors about their careers. Utilize online resources to explore careers (Road Trip Nation in your students' Naviance account is a great place to start!)
Students: Access your Naviance account on the MCHS website or here: https://student.naviance.com/madisonch
It's never too early to start exploring careers!

We're here to help!
Help us help you: Please complete the MCHS School Counseling Needs Assessment!
For Students, Parents/Guardians/Caregivers & Faculty/Staff
The MCHS School Counseling team is constantly collecting data and information to identify and address the current needs of our students, families and staff. This is especially important as we continue to navigate the Covid-19 pandemic, and the extended time away from our traditional school routine. Now that we have completed the first quarter of the 20-21 academic year in our hybrid learning model we would like to get your input. Please take a moment to complete the following survey of your personal needs so that we can support you throughout the school year. This survey is confidential and will only be utilized by the school counseling office to address the need(s) identified and adjust our school counseling program focus to better meet those needs.
Access the survey here: https://forms.gle/RgxkgjoEtatsb6QF9

GENERAL STRATEGIES & SUGGESTIONS FOR COPING AND OVERALL WELLNESS
Routine: Create & stick to a daily schedule. We all need structure, but it is particularly important for healthy child and adolescent development.
Take care of your physical health: Exercise regularly; try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals; practice deep breathing, stretching and/or mindfulness. Get outside!
Rest: Get plenty of sleep! The National Sleep Foundation recommends that adults get 7-9 hours of sleep each night. It is recommended that preschoolers through teenagers get 8-10 hours of sleep each night.
Limit screen time and overexposure to negative news coverage. Take regular breaks from news and social media outlets.
Make time to unwind. Participate in activities that you enjoy. Children may also enjoy creating artwork, reading books and playing games with family members.
Stay connected: By text, phone, email or in person, connect with someone each day. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.
