Joyfully Embracing Our Mission

Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
We, the St. Clare School Community, joyfully embrace the Gospel mission entrusted by Christ to His Church.
Believing that everyone is made in the image and likeness of God, we cherish and celebrate our diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Dear St. Clare School Families,
We congratulate students and their families who will be receiving their First Holy Communion this Sunday at the 9 A.M. Family Mass. Mrs. Vallarta and Mrs. Rascon have prepared them very well. Fr. Prosper and Fr. Tad have expressed how impressed they were with our second graders and their level of preparation for the Sacrament. We are very proud of them for knowing that this milestone is not about the pretty clothes, gifts or parties that accompany the celebration but about the realization that in its Consecration, the host becomes the actual Body of Christ (transubstantiation) so that he may live in us and be one with us. It is this act of solidarity that our relationship with Christ transcends human understanding.
BISHOP CANTU VISITS ST. CLARE SCHOOL
On Monday, May 20, our new Bishop, Oscar Cantu, will greet the students at morning assembly, visit the classrooms in the morning and connect with our teachers during break. In addition, after morning assembly, Fr. Ritche Bueza, Director of Vocations and Seminarians will speak with students in Grades 5-8 about vocations and support of our seminarians. We hope you can join us to welcome them to St. Clare School!
On Tuesday, May 21, St. Clare will send a delegation to the Cathedral to celebrate Bishop Cantu’s 25th year of having been ordained a priest. Please pray in thanksgiving for Bishop Cantu and for his years to come, in service to the Diocese of San Jose.
GRATTITUDE TO ASST. SUPERINTENDENT, DR. TARA ROLLE
Dr. Rolle has announced that she will be leaving her role as Executive Director of Drexel Schools in June. We are grateful to her for her guidance in establishing a successful system of schools that supports the continuous growth of its students and teachers. We wish Dr. Rolle well and we ask that she continue to keep us in her prayers as we will continue to do the same! Thank you, Dr. Rolle!
SPRING CONCERT AND ART SHOW: A CRITICAL SUCCESS!
Bravo to our talented artists, musicians and choir for a delightful evening showcasing their enormous talent! Congratulations to Mrs. Talbott, Mrs. Dempsey and Miss Kim for directing, encouraging and developing our students’ gifts. As I said that evening, these students dedicate many hours outside of school to learn, practice and refine their skills and talent and we are so grateful to them for their willingness to share these with our community.
FR. PROSPER’S LAST DAY AT ST. CLARE IS MAY 21
On Tuesday, May 21, we will gather at morning assembly to show our gratitude and well wishes for Fr. Prosper. We hope you can join us! He will get on the plane to the Congo that evening and when he returns, he will start his role as parochial vicar at the Cathedral. Your children are preparing cards to show their gratitude.
THANK YOU, SAFETY PATROL!
We are grateful to our sixth graders and middle school students who served as our Safety Patrol this past year. They will celebrate with a trip to Sky High sponsored by the Santa Clara PD and they will be honored at an awards ceremony later in the week. Our dedicated crew is top-notch and we thank Ms. McCormick and Miss Angela for their help in coordinating this work each day!
A VERY BUSY AND MEANINGFUL WEEK FOR THE CLASS OF 2019
This week, we are simulating Finals’ Week for the 8th grade class. Summative assessments have been scheduled and the Capstone Projects will be presented on May 22nd. On May 23rd, parents and teachers have prepared an evening of reflection, bonding and celebrations: the students will enjoy a field day, lumpia-making with Mrs. Mantecon, a sumptuous meal prepared by their parents, yearbook signing, conversations with recent alums about what to expect in high school and an intimate candlelight mass with Fr. Tad. There will be many moments of joy and deep reflection. Please keep them in your prayers as they transition from this loving community. On Friday, the 8th graders and their families will gather at Seacliff Beach for one last time together to reminisce and look ahead. Mr. Goetz and Mrs. Mantecon will host this family event. The week that follows is graduation week. We are very proud of the young men and women that they have become and we look forward to hearing about their successes!
MASS OF COMMUNION | FRIDAY, MAY 24 AT 9 A.M.
Please join us at Mass to celebrate our unity as one Body of Christ. The mass, led in ministry by the second grade class will be a celebration of their continuous commitment to become disciples of Christ as was initiated by their Baptism. When they are Confirmed, they will be fully initiated into our faith. Please show your support through your presence. The journey is ours, as one community of St. Clare.
“And they’ll know we are Christians by our love…” The message from the refrain of Fr. Peter Scholtes’ 1960s hymn is eternal. It speaks of visible action or “evidence” of how one could tell if another was a disciple of Christ. Jesus, in John’s gospel gives the disciples a new commandment to love one another. He follows this with “This is how ALL will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
As we anticipate this Sunday’s First Holy Communion celebrations and in looking back at our year together, have our actions shown that we followed Jesus’ new commandment; and if we were being observed, would the observer be able to tell that we are "Christians by our love"?
Continued blessings of peace during this Easter season,
Mrs. Cecile Mantecon, Principal

Updated Scrip Form
We have large inventory of Lucky, Whole Foods, Shutterfly, Nordstrom, Best Buy, Home Depot, Disney, Game Stop, gas cards and more! Please check out the Order Form.
We are working to transition to an online based SCRIP ordering system that will make it more convenient for our families. We would like to reduce our inventory significantly. We do not want to risk another $1500 investment from stores that have closed down for which we still had SCRIP.
We thank Amy Gibson for her tremendous work during this transition!
