Parent Info Night September 9th
Join us for a parent meeting in the gym at 6:00pm. Beginning at 6:30pm parents will spend 8 minutes in each of your student’s classes. Teachers will share the curriculum goals, skills, objectives, and major themes they plan to cover throughout the year.
Because the time in each class period is short, there will not be an opportunity to ask questions regarding your own child’s progress. However, each teacher will share his/her planning period time, phone number and email so that you can ask your questions in a more personal setting.
A wonderful opportunity for lengthier discussions is during the parent/teacher conferences, scheduled for October 10th and 14th from 4:30-8pm.
Student schedules with teacher and room number are located on Parent Portal. Students may also fill in their schedule on this document for you to follow. We look forward to visiting with you!
Please, Parents Only.

From the PTO
Hello Parents,
We hope that everyone is having an awesome start in the new school year, especially our new 6th graders!!! We are excited to announce that we are going to be participating in a new school wide fundraiser this year called Step It Up! There will be a kick off assembly on September 9th with info being sent home. This program is amazing!! It is specifically designed for middle school aged kids. The prizes are phenomenal and then it leads to a “Day of Awesomeness” on October 16th. Mark your calendars for both! We want to make this our biggest fundraiser ever with a goal of $50,000!! Can you imagine how much that could make a difference for our school, for our students, and for our teachers?? We know with your help this can be a success! We will not be holding the Stampede of Giving or a Fall fundraiser this year, in hopes that we can meet our goal. This will be our only fundraiser this Fall semester. All info will be sent home on September 9th and we will have a video showing the awesomeness of Step It Up at Parent Info Night on September 9th as well.
Last year, the money raised went into upgrading Cheyenne’s recess area. Hopefully kids have been talking about all of the new equipment this year! They have been having a ton of fun with it all, made possible with your donations to the PTO. We installed a Gaga pit for Gaga ball (it is like dodgeball played in an octagon), a new cart filled with basketballs and gaga balls, new tables, new benches and trashcans. New basketball hoops are on the way! This was a huge re-vamp for our school. Prior to this, there was not a place to sit or trashcans. Your money donated is making a huge difference!
With our Step It Up fundraiser, we hope to purchase benches and trashcans for the front of the school for the students to use waiting for pick up. Also, if the District is not able to resurface the black top of the recess area, we would love to make that possible. It needs it desperately! Lastly, we want to make the Commons area inviting and useful. We want to furnish it with modular furniture that can be moved and used however needed for any class. Right now, some classes use this area but it is completely empty. It could be an additional amazing space utilized for learning.
Every dollar donated goes towards teacher and student support and improvements in the building. You are all a part of the PTO and the change that happens is thanks to you!!
Please come to our first general meeting on September 10th at 9:30. We want to meet you, hear your ideas and share our mission for this school year.

Reading and Math Screener September 5th and 6th
Dear Cheyenne Families,
As part of our goal to ensure that our students receive the best instruction and are making at least a year’s growth academically in a school year, we are adding an assessment and reporting system this year called aimswebPlus.
aimswebPlus provides resources that help us adjust the level and intensity of instruction to the needs of each student. The aimswebPlus reading and math assessments are used for two main purposes:
Universal Screening, to identify students likely to struggle so that these students can receive extra instruction in a timely manner; and
Progress Monitoring, to track the progress of students receiving extra instruction and ensure that each are on schedule to meet year-end reading and math goals.
Students will be assessed each fall, winter, and spring for Reading and Math. For students identified as needing additional instruction, we will monitor their progress frequently, checking at least once a month and as often as once a week. If someone is not showing sufficient progress, we can then adjust instruction.
These tests are very brief because aimswebPlus assesses the basic reading and math skills that are good indicators of overall performance. The Reading screener will be given on Thursday and the Math on Friday. Students will have at least a class period to complete each assessment. No special preparation for aimswebPlus testing is required, other than preparing for school as on any other day. The testing takes a short amount of time and will not be a big event for your child. Students will need to bring their basic set of earbuds that were on their supply list. Our office does have some for sale for $5. Students that are absent on the day of testing will make it up when they return.
We will be providing additional information to families regarding the results this fall. Please contact your grade level counselor if you have additional questions.

Student ID Badges
EVERY student has been issued a Student ID Badge. Per the new District Policy, this MUST be worn EVERY day with the district-issued lanyard and the picture must face out. No personal lanyards or bling, pins, etc. can be added. If your student does not come to school with his or her ID Badge the following will take place:
A ONE TIME ONLY orange temporary badge will be issued to wear for the day and a phone call home will be made.
The next day, they must have their badge. If they don’t have it we will provide a temporary badge for the day while we print a new badge which will cost $5 dollars and it will be assessed as a fine until paid.
If this becomes a regular offense your student may have AISP for the day.
The Cheyenne Staff VERY clearly stated the consequences and the importance of having the ID Badge EVERY day to the students and to individuals.
Please continue to remind your child to put their badge in the same spot every day so that they have it with them every day. AS they walk out the door or get into the car ask them these two things… Do you have your ID? Is your Chromebook charged?
Band Blast
Welcome to band! We are very excited to create music with this year’s band students!
The final turn-in day for orders and money for our annual magazine/cookie dough fundraiser will be Tuesday, September 10. Thank you for your support of the Cheyenne Band program and enabling us to provide musical experiences for your student. The Cheyenne band t-shirt order form and money is also due by Wednesday, September 4.
CODA honor band auditions for 7th and 8th grade students will be on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at Santa Fe High School. If your child would like to audition for the CODA Honor band, please contact Mrs. Mills (joelee.mills@edmondschools.net, 726-5729). Students will be given their audition time by the week of November 4. If the student is selected for the honor band, the band will be held on January 10-11, 2020, in Norman, OK. 7th and 8th grade parents be looking for an electronic sign-up form.
The 8th grade band will have their first performance on the evening of Monday, September 23, 2019 at Cheyenne Family Fun Night. The band will be performing at 6:30 pm. Call time will be 6:00 pm. Make plans to attend this fun evening.
The 8th grade band will be joining the Edmond North band for an upcoming football game on Friday, October 25, 2019. This is a great time for 8th graders to begin to make connections with their future Husky band members.
6th grade students are ready to start making music on their instruments. We know they are eager to begin their instrumental music journey.
Please encourage all band students to practice at home consistently on a daily basis. Frequently ask them to perform something on their instrument for your family. We appreciate the support!
Students who are rhythmically skilled also tend to better plan, sequence, and coordinate actions in their daily lives.

Chromebook Information for Parents
Dear EPS Parents,
As part of our Digital Conversion initiative, all 6th-12th students will be receiving Chromebooks this year - computer laptops that run the Google Chrome Operating System. To help your secondary student get off to a smooth start with their Chromebook, please review the following information:
STPP - Student Technology Protection Plan
The Chromebook your student will receive has a rugged case to prevent accidental damage, but we strongly recommend that parents purchase the $25/year Student Technology Protection Plan (STPP). Parents will be financially responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged Chromebooks (and chargers and cases). You may pay for it online via our InTouch payment system.
***The last day to purchase will be September 20th.***
Additional Information
Each student is required to watch the Annual Student Review, ASR. Your secondary student can access this video by logging into their Infinite Campus student portal and clicking on the URL. If your student does not remember their password, we will help on the first day of the Chromebook disbursement. Digital Conversion Page

TECHNOLOGY HELPFUL PRESENTATIONS
District Policy regarding Personal Devices
We expect personal devices to be off and out of sight for the duration of the school day. Chromebooks have eliminated the need for supplementing with personal devices. In remaining consistent with our middle school practice, devices will be allowed before the first school bell at 7:40 and after the last bell at 2:40. We recognize that personal devices are part of the everyday world that we live in as well as our future, and know the incredible capability that today’s technology brings to our life. For young adolescents, it also presents many challenges. Recent research is now showing that middle school-aged students are spending an average of 4.5 hours a day on their personal devices. That number increases to 8 hours a day by the high school years. As educators and parents we see how many of our kids are immersed on social media platforms, gaming, mass(sometimes hidden) communications and other varieties of content consumption. For a great many students this creates social-emotional and/or academic challenges during school, in addition to the challenges from an instructional point of view. We are seeking to increase classroom engagement and reduce outside distractions, and we appreciate your support in this transition. If you need to get an urgent message to your child, we will be happy to help in that communication from the office.
